There's more resources floating around the asteroid belt alone than anywhere on earth. And there's infinitely more available along the way from any other star system. Aliens wouldn't come here for resources.
OK, you know what the cheapest and easiest thing to be is? The skeptic. I challenge you to look up CE5 protocols, and go dare to have a direct experience. It's actually not that hard. Even a concrete minded fool like you could accomplish it. And then watch that concrete disintegrate as your worldview is remade...
"Cheapest and easiest" is IRRELEVANT.
You know what the most CORRECT thing to be is? A skeptic.
1. Why does any govt need to keep this secret if its understood that its some alien craft? What benefit is it to anyone to hide the info. And why hide it for this long anyway?
2. If there are bits and pieces of UFO's surely some of this was discovered by private citizens. Where are they? Why has no one come forward or kept a few pieces of taken a few pictures to sell to someone?
Every one of these stories of aliens and crafts have one thing in common: Not a single bit of visible proof is ever given. Its always in a top secret govt vault somewhere.
For me its simple: seeing is believing. Put up or shut up.

1. Governments are not certain as to how the populace will react to the news. The establishment has a fear that the confirmation of advanced alien life could tear apart the fabric of society. In particular, would such knowledge destroy organized religions? That would eliminate a major tool of control used by many nation states including our own. Many people would immediately abandon their faith as it would call into question the existence of God/Allah and the notion that He created us in his image. If a superior alien species stated that they are the gods that we have worshipped throughout humanity, that upsets the entire apple cart.
I'll also add that people would have no need for government or corporations any longer because the aliens clearly have much better stuff than we do. In fact, screw you guys! Your laws and products don't mean s**t any longer. If the aliens are benevolent, can cure cancer, provide limitless energy, solve hunger, and eliminate poverty, then I don't wish to hear one more f**king word about markets, winners and losers, class structures, or institutions! It will be very clear that the common man has been getting screwed over for millennia. The rich and the powerful suddenly lose all dominion over the poor unwashed masses.
2. If such evidence exists, see #1 - they don't want that proof out there. Considering the stakes, anyone with such bit and pieces have had it seized, been bullied into silence, or have been killed to keep it under wraps.
At this point, would anybody care if there was some conclusive proof of extraterrestrial intelligence?
People are so wrapped-up in their bs lives that I really don’t think anyone would give it much thought.
Would you?
I honestly don’t know if I would. I have always believed in the possibility, and understand that any chance of contact is less than remote, Drake equation and all.
Contact? As far as vanishingly small odds go, I would rather win the lottery—depending on how the alien chicks looked, of course.
UFO people are bottom of the barrel. Every few months for decades they announce some ground breaking discovery or some sort of footage that proves their childish belief that aliens are visiting earth are real. Then, when the claims end up being like the rest, a bunch of nonsense, they crawl back into their weird tinfoil hat bubble and wait for the next fake headline with zero shame. I mean, they're like ghost hunters. These people seem to dedicate their lives to proving the existence of something and have literally always been wrong. It must be a mental illness. This latest episode is no different.

1. Why did the government keep their department that was devoted to investigating UAPs secret for years? BTW, the same journalists who revealed that department, and which led to all the congressional hearings on UAPs, are the same journalists behind this story. It seems plausible to me that if the US government had a fully intact craft from a civilization a million more years advanced, they wouldn't be inviting everybody, Chinese and Russians included, to come take a peek.
Who did they invite to take a peek? All they have done is hint that they have super advanced tech. That's a flex to intimidate other countries.
The other countries got tech too, that's why they have hypersonic missiles. The aliens gave it to them to balance things out. US tries and fails to develop them, not knowing the secret.
Probably the aliens are playing a game, placing bets on wars and which countries will win. Or there are different factions of aliens backing different countries.
What if it is human just from a very long time ago? That's more likely (although still unlikely).
He will probably become 'mentally ill' quite soon.
To think we are the only living beings in the entire solar system is just ignorance. We are the dumb ones. The other beings turn out the lights when they see us coming. They have probably been here several times, without us being bright enough to know.

Your 1st sentence proves your 2nd sentence.
In our ENTIRE solar system, at the present time, we are pretty much alone, if you leave out bacterias and other small creatures. Though, we haven't even prove for bacetrias.
