No, his comment was extra clueless in that he wasnt 5th (3rd or 4th based on doping positives) because "everyone went out fast"...at all. It was the fastest 800 start to FINISH in history. Nick didnt benefit by people dying or a tactical race or something. He ran 1:42 high for gods sake. Fast enough to win most olympic gold or silvers. I would say he is the authority.
He finished 5th in the fastest race start to finish ever.
How often does any Olympic gold medal plan work? They're inherently tough to get for obvious reasons. Luck is always involved. Centro got it done and any criticism on this board of his Gold medal is utterly idiotic. Especially the 350 line by letsrun idiots(not you).
Don't you people realize that anyone in that race could have picked up the pace? he wasn't stopping them. There were people in his race with insane prs, and doping kiprop. And he found a way to beat them all, knowing that some of them could beat him in a Monaco situation. Centros as savvy as they come regarding race strategy, positioning, etc. And that's why he's an Olympic champion. And letsrun critics are in their mothers basement being all close minded thinking running a time trial is the only respectable way to win a race.
Centro also has a World bronze and silver, which would be silver and gold without doper Kiprop. No other American-born athlete, ever, has more than one World/Olympic 1500m medal.
5th in the Olympics where almost everybody went out too fast - so he’d have done far worse in a normal one - and he acts like he’s an expert on training. Now he’s a complete hobbyjogger
Nick Symmonds really annoys me but this is a weird criticism. Is Dave Wottle’s gold invalidated because everyone else went out too fast?
Doofus...... it was actually the fastest fifth place finish in history. And he's a 142 guy and has a world silver and a ton of us titles. You are an idiot. If this sport annoys you, then follow a different one and go stink up that environment instead.

One thing people miss about Centro's gold is that he absolutely might still have won in a faster race. From 2011-2015 he finished 3rd, 4th, 2nd, and 8th in the 1500m at the global outdoor champs. In 2013, he was only behind Kiprop in a 3:36 race.
And Centro had his best indoor season in 2016, winning the World Indoor Champs and running 3:50.63 to win Millrose (did you realize that this is the fastest indoor mile in the world for the whole 12 period 2006-2017?)
Finally, it wasn't just the last 400m that was fast; it was at least the last 600m (1:18.0 for Centro, which is 1:44 800m pace), and it was more like 630m to go when Souleiman made the race's first big surge. Kiprop had made a smaller move before that, which Centro covered.
Obviously, Centro wasn't suited for a very fast El G style race. (I think he might have surprised even there though, as he clearly was at the peak of his powers). But anything slower than 3:34 and Centro was likely to be in the hunt for the win.
Face it. The planet fitness manager thought those girls were his property and was jealous Nick was macking on all the fly hunnies in the parking lot. He couldn't lift even 2 plates. Beta af.
This. He blew a gasket when he was talking to the young women whereas before he was upset, but still relatively grounded. Simps gonna simp.
Read his book "Life outside the Oval Office " Dude seems like a decent person who enjoys himself, staying in shape and makes a living off it. I'd bet on him in a race or any other physical activity you clown's think you could beat him at.
I'll take that bet. How much you offering? Long distance.
What is a job? Does it have to be in an office, store, or a factory? I thought a job was when you are making something for society in return for money? Or using your time to provide something to others in exchange for pay? Isn't that what Nick is doing?
You should see what he makes each month from his videos. It is a "real" job.
p.s. If he were on the scene these days (when 1:43-1:44 wins every race), Nick would be one of the absolute best 800m runners on the planet.
So many atheletes in many sports can't make a living after their 20-30s are over and are forced to take day jobs. I know so many who had to become labourers. Why can't he do what he loves and make money off it if others find it entertaining. I can ALMOST guarantee you that you're probably sub 5-figures, struggling to pay rent with this type of comment.
Sorry, I am not from the USA. What does "woke" mean? Shouldn't it be good to be "woke"? I am told it means to be awake, concerned and aware, not asleep, indifferent and unaware.
