He's with the coach who took him to the 5th in the Olympics as a 20 year old. Pretty good if you ask me.
That's the second person who thinks he finished 5th in Tokyo. Did someone get scrubbed from the results or something? He crossed the line in 6th, Adel Mechaal was 5th

The IOC seems to still think he came 6th, but what do they know?
Hocker is just as physically talented as Ingebrigtsen, possibly more so given his finishing speed. The difference is the American high school/collegiate system handicaps prodigies like Hocker. Ingebrigtsen has been training like a world class professional since he was a teenager. The same can't be said for Hocker. Ingebrigtsen has been competing against pros since he was a teenager. Hocker has only faced far less-talented high school/college competition. Basically, international prodigies like Ingebrigtsen come up through the youth, junior, senior levels whereas Americans come up through high school/college levels which leaves them years behind the rest of the world because athletes only have to be 20 to compete at the senior level whereas American collegians are 22 or even 23 if they stay for 4 years. Even Hocker, who turned pro at 20 and ran 3:31 is behind Ingebrigtsen, who ran the same time at 17. Hocker is about 3 years behind Jakob even though Jakob is only 8 months older. Jakob is not better because he's more talented, he's better he was developed better at a younger age than Hocker.

Hocker is talented as he can be very good off of little training (won footlocker off of very low mileage)
Jakob is talented as he can train more and harder without injury (100+ mile weeks with 5-6 workouts avoiding the injuries that plagued his brothers)
Hocker's big problem is that he hasn't run a fast 800m. Only 1:46. He needs to be able to run 1:43 like Cheryuit, Webb, etc. in order to show he has any potential as a top miler.

You responded to me.
Often, 800m training increases the probability of damaging Achilles. C H was most likely working on improving his 800m p.b. before Achilles setback.
I hope he fully recovers before bothering to run fast in practice.

This is CORRECT. Hicham, Lagat and Jakob for sure could have been top milers BUT they never showed they had 1:43 800m speed so they fell short.
I think Hocker could be an outstanding marathoner. I saw him at the 5th Avenue mile last year. He was by far the smallest of the top guys but he had the foot speed to keep up with them.
