Close but not correct. It’s 17-39 but can be “bent” with a waiver. Prior service can reenlist later. If you have been out of the service for 6 years you have to redo Basic unless you get a waiver. 49 is the oldest I’ve heard of someone being at Basic this individual happened to be prior service. Your forced retirement age will be 65.
General George S. Patton was paralyzed in an auto accident in Germany on Dec. 9, 1945, and died in a Heidelberg hospital 12 days later. His death spared conspiracy theories.

We had a 28 year old prior service guy in my platoon at basic. We thought he was the oldest man alive.
You can join the Army at an advanced age if you are prior service OR as a direct commission (typically doctors or lawyers).
As some random off the street you are NOT joining the Army pass the age limit.
Alan
Which is ridiculous for older guys over the age limit who are in phenominal shape!
I don't feel sorry for the military then when they whine & cry to Congress that enlistment is at all-time lows - despite offering insane signing bonuses!
More & more youngsters out of HS have no desire to join the military. Many of them are overweight/obese & couldn't pass the PT test let alone finish boot camp. Lol.
So, if the military wants to reject super-fit older guys because of some stupid, obsolete age limit, then the heck with them.
The US military is facing the greatest recruiting challenge in almost half a century, since the inception of the volunteer service, Pentagon leaders are warning Congress.

I would not say U.S. military complains regarding recruits, D.o.D. advertising and encourages young and fit individuals to sign up. I am sure past age sixty, you are not as fit as you believe you are. Let's say you can still run a sub-37:30 10K. Are you capable of going on 50 hour Long Range Patrols, sans sleep? Can you climb a 30 foot rope with a combat load on your body? Depending, a combat load can weigh (40 to 100) pounds. At age sixty, you will likely break down and get injured even if you can do well a few days in basic training. Get a PhD in nuclear engineering or PhD in bio-chemistry if you want to be in uniform past age 60.

Disagree I heard Dan Gable was able to beat Wrestlers in the Iowa Wresting Team Room in his 60's, Myron Roderick was Famous for Challenging and beating Wrestlers well into his 50's when he was Athletic Director at Oklahoma State, he always challenged Wrestlers Including NCAA Champions (He himself was a 3 Time NCAA Champion when they were only allowed 3 years of eligibility) to take him down, he was ridiculously good on his feet and It was extremely rare for him to be taken down.
Don Gable was 117-1 in college. He put the hurt on most of his wrestling mates.
You said an average 18 year old could beat up any 62 year old, Even at age 62 I would pick Gable over the anerage 18 year old
A local doctor is taking his skills and medical training with him to serve our nation as he becomes the Army reserve's latest recruit at the age of 62.
U.S. Army Reserve Maj. Peter Edelstein, medical doctor and general surgeon, took the oath of commissioned officers at Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital on Fort Polk, Louisiana, on Aug. 27.
With four military retirements behind him, Col. William Bernhard said former President John F. Kennedy's plea to the nation nearly 50 years ago inspires him to keep going.
Killed by proto Deep State and maybe Ike, to eliminate him as potential prez rival.
President Patton would have conquered the whole world or died trying. Very dangerous
General Patton, an interesting study. Patton's family were large land owners in what is today Pasadena, CA. General Patton had F You Money. I assume since he had F You Money, he spoke without filters.
Some things not covered much in film, Patton. He was real easy on German Nazis at the end of the war. Also, Patton made many comments that were not pleasant toward Jewish people.
I am not going to necessarily say Patton was killed. I will say Patton did not receive the best efforts from medical personnel once he was injured. Patton made a lot of enemies.
