Maybe it is better they just stick with what's been working 1500 and 5K... I don't know it sounded cool to try to get both the 5K and the 10K record but... Maybe it's not cool to risk it...
For someone who reportedly runs 70 miles per week, the 10k record should be the easier record to break than the sub 15 5k.
Tuohy is a second slower than Monson at the mile, technically ran 4:23 too but for 6 meters less.
Tuohy is ten seconds slower than Monson at 3k.
So if we compute it like a dumb track fan like me, if Monson can run 30:03 10k then Tuohy is possibly in 30:40s - 30:50s form right now.
The NCAA record is 31:18 for the 10k. No collegiate runner has gone sub 31 in the 10k. Tuohy could be the first, just like the sub 4:25 mile.
Not so sure about that
1) When Lisa Uhl set that record, 31:18, she later ran 14:55 that season (and didn't run faster for the 10k), and she had no speed in comparison to Tuohy (4:19, 1500m runner). So I don't think that the 10k record is easier for her to break than the 5k record.
2) Last season Monson ran 30:50 for 10k and 14:31 for the 5k. Presumably, she is in better than 14:30 shape right now
3) The fact that Tuohy is so close to Monson over the mile, suggests to me that she is better at the mid distance stuff than the 10k.
If Tuohy had a fast 800m time it would be easier to say if she is more Mid d or not. We don't know what her 800m is.

Looked pretty good in xc! Which is like 7.5k on track. She could handle a 31 min effort with training!
Definitely agree with you that she can break the 10k record, and of course her XC performance was very strong, which provides us evidence of this possibility. I just don't think it will be easier for her to break 31:18 than 15:07.
Just because Tuohy CAN break the collegiate 10k record, doesn't necessarily mean she SHOULD.
She runs with a lot of power and a snappy, forceful stride; we've seen how drastically her kick has improved, and she's always had pretty decent tactical awareness. All this, plus keeping it close with a stronger 5k/10k runner (Monson) for the mile, seems to point towards her having better prospects as a 1500/5k type right now.
ROJO - These boards are junk if people can slander each other and slander athletes by accusing every one of illegal drugs. It is NOT a good board if anonymous people cannot be held accountable for slander. It is not good traffic if it is based upon slander. You should consider requiring real names here. Ultimately, you will have more thoughtful posts and more thoughtful argument and conversation. The board is really slipping. Thank you.
I don't think she is being manipulated. I think she is all in with what her trolls are doing. She doesn't post anything with her own name because she knows she would not be able to run fast without constantly obscuring what she's doing, and we all know why. She is hoping the trolling can help her make a world team with the aid of her "special training" and the constant abusive attacks on her competitors that she and her trolls keep making.
I am trying to understand what it is you are accusing her of... Would you directly state your slander details for us or will you just continue middle school innuendo? Care to share your real name if you are confident in the facts of your slander?
As long as she gets in good races with good pacers both the 5K and the 10K should be pretty easy
Assuming good weather conditions and all that for her to run a 3110 or a 3115 and a 14 55 should be very doable
I don't think too fast races if she paces them well and spreads them apart by 2 to 4 weeks is a big deal especially if she only runs the 5K at Nationals
I mean she's an amazing shape so I really don't see how a good solid 15-minute effort and a good solid 31 minute effort is going to be anything to cause any potential worry

The message board is out of control. Non registered posters changing supposed quotes of prior posters to whatever they wish. I fully support either requiring registerd posters only and quick suspensions or bans for repeated offenses to reasonable rules, or the step of real names.
This is why Tuohy fans are ruining this board. They literally don't care about anything to do with running that doesn't involve Katelyn Tuohy
Really? You know the mindset of all these people?
Yes. I know that they are strangely obsessed with one runner. Imagine hanging out here for 2 years and not even knowing that the World Championships are this year...
She’s far too “vertical” (it looks like she’s bouncing) in her form. Most sub 8:35 (even 8:45) athletes I know run far more naturally. One even broke 7:45 and qualified for nationals after just a good HS career.

Her trolls are in a frenzy trying to cover up the obvious fact that what she's doing is not natural.

You DO know that this particular thread is about Tuohy right? If you do not wish to engage in productive discourse on the titled topic, there are many many many other discussion threads on here that might tickle your fancy. Hundreds. Why comment on the one you don't like and insult all other posters on the defined topic if its mere topic irritates you on a relative basis? Why did you even visit? It is illogical and distractive to those who are interested and have an interest in accretive dialogue.
