It was better than the first one out there by Citrus mag. Kincaid just can’t speak in complete sentence and finish thoughts. Good luck to him but nobody should ever forget that BTC gave him an opportunity and put him on the map. Double threshold may be the short term icing on top.
I don’t know any of the personalities involved, but it seems like Woody is having a nice time, or at least more relaxed time, with the new guys. Ultimately, substance matters, but maybe just maybe it’s more fun to spend your time with Luis, Abdi, Drew and Mike than with Grant, Evan, Sean, Marc and Jerry. Or maybe Marc was his buddy and then he left, or who knows. Fisher seems like a great person, but maybe he’s too nerdy, just wants to talk about engineering during the long runs. You think as pros, none of this should matter, but it does of course. Just people in the workplace with all the usual dynamics.
That's the way the Schumacher comment comes across to me. IOW Kincaid going out on his own rather than sticking with the group.
I’ll further add that BTC did not even acknowledge Woody’s performance last night. Unless I missed it….crickets. That speaks volumes in my book. I am NOT a BTC basher, but I think they now have a bunch of work to do to address the PR and culture issues that have arisen since Shelby’s positive test.
Because he's not on the team anymore. When have you seen any team share public praise for athletes not on their team?
Woody made it clear that he was upset about the move to Eugene and also the possibility of being a lesser priority due to Jerry coaching the Ducks. Woody also mentioned the Shelby situation almost as if it is a dark cloud still hanging over the team.
Woody praised Mike Smith generously. Maybe Woody just wants to feel wanted and not taken for granted. That is understandable.
Left a pro group where the head coach also coaches collegiate athletes. To possibly join a college group with some pros on the side.
Shows what an asshat that Schumacher is. Yet, Nike (and UofO) slobber all over that weasel.
This +100%
I have never understood why so many swoon over Schumacher who seems to be a classic example of somebody who was at the right place at the right time and took advantage of it. “Never heard of nandrolone” my arse!
Jerry chose drug cheat Shelby and uprooting the whole team to Eugene over his athletes interests and without their consultation, and he had the audacity to speak to Woody that way? He sucks more than I thought.
I can't believe he had that good guy" reputation for as long as he did. I mean, yes, we all were comparing him to sociopath Salazar, but considering it was he we who recruited Jerry out west, maybe the apple didn't fall as far from the tree as we thought.
He chose to speak to the newly crowned US record holder that way!bWoody became record holder after leaving BTC. That says a lot!
Jerry sounds like a juvenile boyfriend who has been dumped, "you'll never find someone as good as me ever again! You're going to regret this the rest of your life."
What coach with knowledge of physiology and a huge war chest that is tasked to produce world-beaters is going to base their camp at sea-level instead of altitude?
+2000%
I suspect the problem might have something to do with knowledge of physiology matching knowledge of common PEDs such as nandrolone.
This guy is likely going through a phase mourning the death of his dad. But this quote really seemed relevant to me:"I just want to show up and shoot the sh*t at practice and go out there and compete." Generation Z in a nutshell.
Mike Smith had higher finishes in the men's 5k than Jerry did. Go join the better group
Mike Smith has also won more NCAA XC titles as a head coach than Jerry did at Wisconsin (5-1) and did so in a shorter time span (6 years to 10) with the resources of a D1-AA (below P5/G5) school. Give Mike Smith the Nike treatment Jerry has and who knows what he could do.
Wins are one aspect, i'd like to know which coach has destroyed the most talent from overtraining and injuries. Schumacher's record is not so good in that respect, Solinsky, Teg, Bairu....

Helps it a little bit, but still Jerry really thinks Woody doing 70% of Mo/Grants workouts before dropping out is the best training for him? He doesn’t see why Woody would want something tailored to him. Woody is 30 and there is a wealth of information of training online. It sure seems even if Mike Smith wasn’t coaching him before Jan. 6 they were in-sync with double threshold, and the level of intensity. Woody being put in the B heat last year was just emblematic of the issues with Jerry running the show. The line from Jerry comes across as arrogant/stubborn. Hopefully he *can* evolve somewhat with his athletes who need some individualization.
Also see Emily Infeld. Same situation and same result. Left BTC/Jerry and self-coached herself to the Worlds team with an assist from John Green. Could also add Sinclaire Johnson to the lack of individualization with BTC causing issues and success after leaving.
Keep in mind Jerry’s coaching mentor is Martin Smith…..if you know a little about Martin, it should tell you all you need to know about how Jerry was taught to deal with adversity. This quote from Woody is classic Martin head game bs.
Jerry is one of those guys who negative recruits - ie. the only way you can be an All-American, run sub four, etc is to come to (Wisconsin) Oregon.
Negative recruiting would be “you can’t run sub 4 at XYZ school.”

Not saying he can't coach but the whale in the room is one program being based at altitude compared to the other.
Bowerman spends a ton of time at altitude. It just doesn’t feel like a valid excuse when they make it a huge part of their setup.
I was referring to this comment "Mike Smith has also won more NCAA XC titles as a head coach than Jerry did at Wisconsin (5-1) and did so in a shorter time span (6 years to 10) with the resources of a D1-AA (below P5/G5) school. What he’s doing is just selling his program.
If you say “you can only run sub 4 by coming to x school” you are saying you can’t run sub 4 at x school at the same time. It isn’t just selling his program. It’s selling his program AND speaking negatively of other programs. Jerry is clearly insecure. He literally said he’s throwing his career away. How is that not implying other groups/training programs aren’t good? He doesn’t even think they are good enough for Woody to maintain a career
The Norwegian model of lactate threshold training and lactate controlled approach to training. A look at some of the concepts, history, and keys to improvement. I wrote most of the articles found…
People are taking the quote out of context. I understood Woody to be saying it’s really hard to go out and do it alone, and even Jerry told him that. And it was hard. Had he told Jerry he wanted to go to a different group I doubt the conversation would have been the same. Good coaches know that good runners can be successful in a lot of different programs. Not many think they can be as successful in no program, coaching themselves. Not everyone is Ben True. To start a thread making it sound like Jerry was telling him it’s my way or the highway is pretty lame.

Pretty often, especially when the athlete has or had a connection to the team. But in this case it wouldn't surprise me if the silence says more about BTC's poor social media consistency than anything else. They are silent for weeks and then numerous posts are spurted out and then silence again. Maybe the delay is because Jerry insists on personally approving everything? jk, mostly...

Keep in mind BTC went above and beyond publicly and all over social media to support Shelby after she tested positive. Why not take praise your long time athlete who is now a free agent and just broke the American record?
