He developed Tynnismaa, an AL hs runner, who although a bit under the radar now due injury, is comparable to Valby (4:09 8:53 15:33, 3rd at '21 NCAA xc), and a similar story of massive improvement in college.
Fun fact
Amaris' major improvement came after COVID BREAK when she was not training with PALMER!! She ran well at XC and ran really fast 1500m but after a year of training with PALMER, SHE GOT INJURED.
The meltdown of the tuohy-ites (aka semihazer and all of his aliases like ‘gorun’, etc.) begins. I’m going to enjoy it thoroughly
Wait why would we have a meltdown when UF replaced a coach whose runners cant beat Tuohy with a coach whose runners cant beat Tuohy !???
Valby fans are the ones having a meltdown because Valby now dont have Solinsky who was the reason why she became fast in the first place 😆 now she will have to settle with a coach who on only relies to kenyans' natural running ability to be called a good coach.. he literally injured his only good american runner Amaris Tynissmaa
Clearly you know nothing about Tyynismaa because you can't even spell her name right. She might be the most talented girl in the country but her high school season was really affected by a medical condition.
She then ran a true 5k cross country course (Footlocker south at McAlpine Park) in 16:57 as a 13 year old.
Her time was faster than Weini Kelati's time in the championship race (Kelati's junior year but technically Kelati's senior year of eligibility because she was old for her grade).
So 13 year old Tyynismaa was beating 18 year old Kelati.
You are way off. The McAlpine Park xc course is nowhere near as difficult as the National Championship course in Balboa Park. So no, 13 year old Tyynismaa wasn't better than 18 year old Weini Kelati.
Actually she was. They ran the same course on the same day and Tyynismaa ran FASTER by 7 seconds. They weren't in the same race because 8th graders aren't eligible to qualify for the championship
There is nothing to say Palmer is not a good coach. Alabama has done pretty well in distance and Tyynismaa looks to be back from whatever injury she had ( no one knows what that is). Alabama women had some of the best performances this past XC season. Didn't Palmer and Mike Smith cross paths at Georgetown too?
What I find interesting though is Chelangat still has eligibility atleast for indoors, maybe outdoors too, and Palmer is going to be coaching Valby up against his old team at conferences and NCAAs. Most of them will be in the same events.

There's nothing to say that he is a good coach either. Minus the Kenyan transfers, what has he done? Give those same athletes to almost any D1 Coach and they'll get the same results. This site is funny some times. I truly thought that there were more runners here than there actually are.

No, he didn't develop Tyynismaa. Did NC develop Tuohy? The majority of the top runners came from another country that Waters recruited.
Palmer was not some amazing coach with magic workouts. And no, I didn't go to Alabama but I can read and comprehend easily---the information is right on their rooster page.
NC St did not develop Touhy, Chmiel, or Rauber, but they did get them all to the starting line healthy and in peak fitness. Teams and coaches for Dudek, Hart, Masciarelli, Brown, Ewert, Thorvaldson, Hutchins, Dadamio etc. did not.
NC St did develop Sam Bush - hs pr's 2:10 4:47 10:36 (gee a lot like Valby, too)
and they rehabilitated Nevada Moreno from her injuries at Stanford.
That was the 5 that won the title. Talent, training, health, timing peak + a little luck is coaching.
Palmer got his international stars healthy and peaked, he rehabbed Tyynismaa from both recent injury and hs issues. He just could not get the 5th runner.
So who is a good coach? Usual answers
Mike Smith - he was handed first champ team, and since then gets 2 top 5 recruits yearly.
Wetmore - a minus level recruits, plus training and altitude. Might just be most consistent program in development.
Stanford/Oregon/Washington/and now UNC/UVA - these teams just packed with top recruits based on academics, running history, coaches reputation. Are they coaching people up or bringing in talent?
So who is your choice as better than Palmer? Someone to bring in sub elite talent and coach it up to championship level.
