I would bet a lot of people who are moving to red states are moving to areas that have no shortage of Democrats, like Austin and Raleigh, parts of GA.
TX has a business-friendly climate. FLA is a big retiree state with no state income tax. So politics plays a role here.
TX/FLA also have more gun violence per capita, lower standardized test scores, a more obese population, inferior public Universities, inferior private universities, and are lower performing than CA and NY in a lot of areas.
Also, it's hard and maybe not even meaningful to compare these states across the board because they are so large. People in Redding live far differently than people in L.A., or Fresno, or San Luis Obispo. Back east that would be like 4 different states right there. I'd imagine people in Austin live far differently than people in rural west TX.
None of this is to say TX/FLA aren't good places or that I would not want to live there. I personally love NC. But the idea that Republicans know the secret sauce is complete nonsense.
