You can’t be arrested. Worse case scenario they might ask you to leave and never come back lol it happened to my once, but I still do so once in a while. I think you’re safe if you go before school starts or afterwards. Do not try to jump the fence at regular school hours.
HS are public I don’t understand why they can’t be open to the public after school hours. Best of luck!!!
Sad that this is even an issue. As long as you are running outside of school hours (which you are since it is break) and no teams are using the track for practice, there is zero reason for this to be a problem. In the Pacific NW, the tracks are open for "community use" and I have run on them hundreds of times without ever being asked to leave even once.
I never jump a track fence. I only enter track if gate is unlocked.
I have been told by law enforcement in ABQ, NM to leave track. I was told by law enforcement in Hudson, WI to leave track. I was told by law enforcement in Platte City, MO to leave track.
We are up to 4 pages of posters stating no arrest will occur. Once law enforcement confront you, there is always a possibility of arrest.
The track should be public property (if it's a public school) and paid for with tax money. This is not a private health club where you need a membership.
I stated three occurrences in three different states, one track a public middle school track with sign stating open to the public and two public senior high schools. If any of you want to debate this I will name middle school and the two high schools. Maybe one of you are not happy that I named your home town.
I am sorry hear about those communities. You are wrong however to claim that our experiences are "opinions" and not "facts" (in your username). My experiences happened and are thus factually accurate. Yours are as well. It sounds like it depends on the community. In Oregon and Washington, tracks are the place where people can go and walk and jog. It is normal to see regular people jogging on all our tracks. That is a fact in the PNW.

I find it bizarre when a poster uses "our" in an attempt to communicate for all or most readers. I've gone to tracks outside of practice for self-training since circa 1976. Of course the majority of my training involved no interaction with law enforcement. Posters did make assumptions stating arrest will not occur. You are a man or woman with an agenda based on your attempt to communicate for majority of readers. My first post was given a down arrow. I assume someone was thinking about debating me. I don't consider your post as an attempt to debate, I see it as Psychological Operations.
