I've already cast my ballot for Parker V to win, so I can't un-vote, but this thread has me somewhat, but not completely in doubt. She's a Florida girl which means both the weather and the terrain will be more of an obstacle for her than many others in the field. She also doesn't have the more powerful style of a couple other contenders. This combination could be enough to keep her off the top step.
That said, her coach is Chris Solinsky--a WI native and one of the toughest American distance runners in history. He's an asset in her preparation for this race. Two other assets she has is that she's just better than everybody else in the field. Is she enough better than Touhy and the other top contenders to make up for the environmental challenges that will be harder on her than others----methinks yes. If nationals were run on the same course she ran regionals, I'd predict her winning by up to 30 seconds against the same field she'll face Saturday. Additionally, this is a young woman who has shown that she's fully capable of handling adversity. She's put up incredible performances the past 18 months with significant obstacles related to injury and sub-optimal training. She's got the swagger from that experience and a dominating regular season this Fall.
In short, I'm sticking with Parker V, but I'm 65% sure she's gonna win, not 90% sure she's gonna win as I was prior to this thread.
Beat Tuohy by 30 seconds? lmao!! This Valby overhype is hilarous.
Tuohy beat Chelangat by about the same time as Valby, but on a 5k.
So now the experienced tough-guy is going to act like a clueless putz?
The tuohy’s like dishing it out, but when something is put out there they don’t like, they resort to the bully tactics. How dare you ‘creepy AF old men’ watch us! And, “nobody is going to beat our tuohy. We’ve already been crowning this rightful champion for years, so the only way that happens, especially by an unwashed upstart, must be PEDs!”
You know I’m correct dude, which is why my posts hurt your whittle feewings.
Dude I don’t care who wins this race. I just exposed you as a LIAR when you said NC State or some team was going to intentionally try to clip or trip another runner. You have been outed as an ignorant troll.
Are you effing crazy??? The largest margin of victory at the NCAA champs for women has to be when Vicky Hueber beat McGovern in the late 80s or Kipeygo beat Jenny Simpson in 2006. And those were not 30 seconds. No way Tuohy get beat by 30 seconds against a girl who she beat multiple times on the track less than 6 months ago.
Yes. Like that. That is the point. People claim that the margin of victory is based on races from last year or last month but runners change. Some improve greatly.
Earlier this week, when were talking about NCAAs on the podcast, it was pointed out that Valby is from Florida and is used to running flat courses. NCAAs this year is most definiitely not flat.
Valby fans, my question for you is simple. Has she ever run a hilly race in her life in HS or college? How did she do? Do we have any idea as to whether she will do well on a hilly course?
Rojo, when was the last time you interviewed Chris Solinsky? This has nothing to do with the topic, buy I have not seen any interviews from anyone with Chris. Does he not want to talk to the media?
Clermont. Look it up. Plenty of hills and hill running in central Florida to the west of the Mouse. Bridges and overpass hill running takes place along the coast.
You can supplement hills with weight training. Actually it’s better because you avoid the negative effects of downhill running and it’s high injury risk.

Since only one person mentioned this I will repeat their wisdom. Whether Valby can run hills or not she also has to do it in pretty cold weather. Weather that Touhy grew up running in. I think this is a big enough factor to make it at least as important as "can she run up and down hills".
