Isn't the general rule that the athlete with the faster 1500m will have the better kick? With Bekele's PR being ~10 seconds faster than Jakobs, it evens the gap a little more, but I'm not sure if it evens it enough for a non-paced race. Jakob's 5000m PR is faster than El Guerrouj, and the latter already showed that he could beat Bekele in championship style racing.

Remember, we’re talking about prime Bekele, not the young and green runner that El Guerrouj beat. Prime Bekele had both the physical fitness and full capabilities of a runner in his mid-20s and the tactical acuity he gained from years of experience competing in multiple types of races. Lagat might have had an equivalent or better kick than Bekele too, but prime Bekele in 2008 wisely didn’t let the Olympic final come down to a kick.

in a lot of cases yes, but Komen had a better PR in the 1,500m than both Haile and Bekele but they could both close a 5,000m faster than him
No human who walked this earth can beat Jakob in a 5000 by running >13:00 pace up to the last mile.
I'll give you 3, Bekele, Geb, and El G. Granted I'm assuming we're talking about 13:05 pace for Bekele and Geb. If we're talking 13:30 pace or slower, Jakob may be able to close faster than them.

And of course if it is 13:30 pace Jakob would be in trouble against the likes of Morceli, Lagat, Hicham and maybe Ngeny or Aouita.

Correct, and he's still no Bekele. Cheptegei has only run sub 12:50 once, he's lost a lot of races in his prime. Bekele went years without losing and could win any kind of race.

I 100% believe Lagat and Mo Farah would beat Jakob as well in championship races. They ran sub 13 in a championship race.
It really is a toss up. I’d put my money on Bekele out leaning Jakob, I believe bekele is probably about 1 percent mentally stronger than Jakob which is the difference maker.

On May 31st, 2004, Kenenisa Bekele ran a time of 12:37.35 to break the world record in the 5000m run.400m Splits:200: 28.75600: 61.981000: 62.511400: 61.1418...
Going into the 2008 Olymics, Bekele has won no World or Olympic title at 5000. Yet he was not bad at the distance at these games. Gebrselassie has no 5000 title at all, yet in his prime he was as good as Bekele.
"Jakob" is 21, what should he have won so far?
I will note for those of you who weren't around back then that it used to be harder to do the 10/5 double at Olympics and WC's. That's why Geb doesn't have any 5000 golds. He was unquestioned as the best championship racer at the 5000 in the 90's.
The 10,000 used to have heats, so you'd have to run two 10,000 races 2-3 days apart.
In 1993 Geb (age of 20), Geb won the 10,000. He came in 2nd in the 5000 losing to Kirui 13:02.75 to 13:03.17. Note that the WR was 12:58 at the time.
In 1995, Geb won the 10,000 and didn't compete in the 5000.
In 1996, Geb won the 10,000 and didn't compete in the 5000.
In 1997, Geb won the 10,000 and didn't compete in the 5000.
1999 was the first year there were no heats in the 10,000. Geb won. But the 10,000 was not until day 4. The 5000 heats were on day 5. Geb did not complete in the 5000.
In 2000, there were again heats in the 10,000. Geb won the 10,000. Geb did not compete in the 5000.
In 2001, Geb finally lost the 10,000 coming in 3rd. He didn't compete in the 5000.
In 2003, Geb lost an epic 10,000 to Bekele coming in 2nd. Geb didn't compete in the Epic 5000 (Kipchoge over El G and Bekele).
Meanwhile, the 4 biggest European meets during the 90s were Berlin, Brussels, Oslo, and Zurich. It would become the Golden League in 1998, which is the predecessor to the Diamond League. These were bigger deals than the Diamond League is now and garnered more head to head competition among the world's best. Geb's results were dominant in the mid to late 1990's.
