When you complain about a European's level of english remember that english will be their 2nd or 3rd language.
From experience, the American use of english is quite idiosyncratic.

sprint, throws, and jumps medals only. One medal from 800m up.

So? Distance medals count twice or something?
I loved my experience at the world champs but I'm also not a tight butthole of a human being.
Did not attend the WC but pretty much everything the OP said is said about every WC; ticket prices, accommodations, etc., etc. At end of the day, athletic performances will always Trump everything else and overall, it was a great competition. My gripe and the reason I did not attend was the lack of upscale hotels and my wife absolutely refused to spend a week hanging out in Eugene. Also, they should have had more discounts tickets set aside for students and family members.
Woah, lots of incresibly defensive people here.

Calcutta is also what India called it from independence to 2001, which is a lot longer than 2001-2022, so don't get on your soap box. Either way it is a transliteration.
The Super Bowl is a highly valued single event that gets the top US ratings every year. Track and Field World Championships managed to beat Saturday morning F1 ratings. But, look, track's fans are not going to pay daily Super Bowl prices for a championship that lasts around nine days. You price everything exorbitantly, who wins? Not the fan, and not the athletes either because they don't get much from USATF. What they get above everything is the fan support of packed stadiums, if you have them. In some places, they don't try to gouge you, and things are good. Anyone who pays high prices for bad food, bad lodging, and 1/4 capacity stadiums is a fool.
No, but this is primarily a distance running site. Not taking anything away from the sprinters, jumpers, and throwers.
The AIPS Chief boycotted Lane County 2022 since the organizers roadblocked international writers by insisting on a Journalism Visa when that only happens with fascist countries like China, Cuba, Israel, Iran, etc.
I attended the world champs as a member of the media and have I guess a different take on the event.
Yes at first it seemed that they were not ready for the event but quickly things were sorted out.
Dorm Living
I stayed in Hamilton Hall (the media dorm space) and found it fine. Maybe European dorms are different than American dorms but I knew what I was pretty much getting into from the start.
True there was no AC but the school did provide each room with a fan which worked fine. Open the window set up the fan your good. In fact at night with the drop in temperatures the room was cool
Yes there was a communal shower (but with curtains to separate each person. I was never in there when anyone else was no if you were shy again not a big deal. What I didn't understand was why people were leaving their underwear and other items in the showers. If you don't want simply take back to your room and throw out.
To top it off a 5 min walk to and from the stadium each session well that can't be beat. I know 1 media member who yes saved money staying at a Motel 6 but that was a 45 min 1 way drive. After a long day at the track who wants that?
Garbage
In the bathroom on my floor people would leave beer cans in the stalls and fill up the small garbage can. All you had to do was put your own garbage in your trash can and when filled take it down and toss in the dumpster. In the lobby there were extra bags in fact in the lobby there was a large bin to throw your filled garbage bags in.
Towels and linens
Every day or 2 you could put your used towels and linens out in the hallway before 9am and they would be replaced. Seemed like a good deal
Food
Ok food was not included in the $150 a night of the dorms but we knew when the room was booked. There are lots of inexpensive food options with a short walk of the dorm. I didn't mind each morning going for a short stroll to get a bite.
Things to do
OK Eugene is not a major city with tons of tourist type things to do, but most of the days were taken up by the meet anyway. The few days that there were not morning session there were a few things you could do or simply relax and rest.
I went into the championships thinking the entire experience was going to be a disaster. I was wrong. After a few hours at the start of bumps it all worked out fine and I enjoyed myself.

Yeah right. Furnace Creek would have been a better choice than 2022 Springfield West for Worlds ;-)
You were a "member of the media?" I sincerely hope you're a cameraman because you write poorly.
We don't take kindly to "members of the media" round here...
Why punish the athletes? Eugene 2022 was the worst WC in history. Everything closed early. Nothing to do. We stayed in a regular house with no activities, no people, no life for miles around. So boring and sleepy. Who did this?
