Incredible how good Jakob must be to make it look it like others weren't even trying.
The Ethiopians WEREN'T even trying. This might be the first 5000 in two generations where none of them ever took the lead ONCE!
I guess their top talents are going straight to the HM and Marathon circuit these days - same thing that happened to Kenya on the male side one generation ago.
Gee. Haven't seen Kejecha, Aregawi, Barega, Gebrigwet, Wale ,etc etc move to a marathon yet. I wonder why? Maybe cuz you go there when you know you're not fast enough on the track? No one in the race could "try". They knew they couldnt beat Jakob no matter what they did. They learned that last year when Jakob jogged a 12:48 with a redlined Gebrigwet not able to do anything. Face it, what you're seeing is a once in a lifetime talent. Absolutely unbeatable
Did you miss that the Marathon Gold in Eugene went to an Ethiopian that won a single 10000 meter medal in the past and then immediatelly moved up? Props to the guys staying in the 5 and 10 (Kejelcha has tried the HM, Barega is about to) but they're all on a backwards trajectory on the 400 meter loop circuit.
Uganda is the new powerhouse in the 5 and 10. Three medals from three different guys this time!

Lol. You just proved my point. The guy won a medal in the past, knew there's no way he could hack it anymore in the 10000 and moved way up. All the slow guys are running the marathon. Especially the half. Kejecha is primed to run a half. I'm sure it's clear to him he's not gonna get anywhere in the faster events
The 5k is Jakob's true event. He has both the strength and the speed. In the 1500 there are too many guys who have more speed. He can be picked off by one of them having a good day. But in the 5k there isn't anyone who can do that to him. He is one of the fast guys, as he just showed.

Also, it doesn't really matter who tried who didn't, who looked like tried to you or who didn't. One guy from Uganda is a world record holder in the 5 and Jakob destroyed him twice in the past year. No doubt Jakob can get close to the WR if not beat it. I'm sure you'll blame the pacing lights or something for not trying harder to beat Jakob.
Sadly that was 100% Fisher's fault. He had run a great race until then.
Not really. His goose was already cooked when he failed to wake up and get off the rail with 350 to go. He could have done it, but didn't. Get alongside Jacob, move further out to obstruct those behind and eyeballs out. It's tactics 101, but Fisher seems mentally challenged.
I meant "unless". Anyway - the question now is if those Ethiopians will even be allowed to go to Zurich etc and complete the full T&A global season. Surely some heads are gonna roll in their federation. If it wasn't for the success of their women they might be shot on sight at the border. Might as well defect to the US while they're already there.
What a disappointment of a race. Mickey Mouse championship. It didnt look like anyone was even trying. They just let Yakob take the lead and then jogged it in.
That's the game right there - run sub-2:25 from the front. As soon as he took the lead he wasn't giving it up. This was total Mo Farah tactics, and just like it did for Farah, it worked perfectly. I wonder how far Jakob is from being able to do that over 10,000?
A word for Grijalva. Great result for him after an impressive run in the semi.
Temperature at 6:30 in Eugene last night, 90-91 degrees and sunny. These are 12:30s and 12:40s guys in the last year or two and they couldn't come close to hanging with him.
62.05 first lap 63:19 62.73 65.12 4:13.08 64.17 66.57 Jakob gets water 66.92 65:78 (8:37.03) 65:58 63:44 60.17 12:15.30 at bell 56.34 13:09.24 (53.94)
Now that was a great 400m...
Hang on, wrong race.
As with the women's 5, not sure why all these 10/5 runners would dawdle like that right up to 600m to go, when you have the OG 1,500, silver in this WC 1,500 comfortably in the pack, to the extent that he can have sips of drinks at the relative joggong pace they were going after a reasonable first km.
Really dumb, Fisher included.
It looked like every Farah championship victory. You always sat there thinking "why the hell are they not trying to fry him?"

There was no winner in this race.
Incredible how good Jakob must be to make it look it like others weren't even trying. World has never seen a talent like this. Oomaz boy is absolutely devastated it's not an African that won. And they won't if Jakob is running.
