It'll probably still go over their heads. I've run up to 150 miles in one week and could see doing 170-180 with triples, but most people here still don't know why they get injured at 50. It's mindset. (And no, I'm not slow)
We get all these threads here where people complain about how bad US marathon runners are and why that's the case. What US runners are doing that sort of volume? Worked for US guys in the 70's. Works for the Japanese. Worked for Levins until he stopped doing it and it's working for him again now that he's back to doing it. But nah, it's not the answer for us.

Most people don’t train that ridiculous volume because it makes zero sense for nearly anyone else. The Kenyans and Ethiopians don’t run that volume, and neither does GOAT Kipchoge. Wh? Because they devote enough energy for speed work and recovery, and their bodies don’t need the extra mileage. Kipchoge rarely runs more than 130 mpw.
if it works for Levins then good for him, but stupid for most people.
Some American guys could learn from this (and from Rupp). Train and live like a professional. Do everything you can to get better. Stop partying, posting on instagram, and start training harder. We have 2:10 guys who could be running 2:07, 2:12 guys who could be running 2:09, etc. Raise the bar here in the USA and, like we've seen in distances like the 5000m, pretty soon the depth is there and you have to be almost a medal contender to make the team. 2:10 isn't a good time anymore.
Very few people could put in the kind of mileage Cam is running and not get either injured, or just completely burnt out mentally and physically. This was a great race by him but I will be interested in seeing how long he can, or will even want to, maintain this level of commitment. It sounds simple enough but relatively few actually emerge better on the other side of the meat grinder.
It wasn't stupid for Shorter, Bacheler, Fleming, etc. It isn't stupid for the Japanese. Yes, there probably are people it's stupid for but as almost no one tries it how would someone know whether or not he's one of them.
Was in Toronto for that race. Not a fast course at all, not great conditions at all and he did it in old Hokas with no plate or next gen foam. Stick some alpha flies on him that day and I could see him going sub 2:08 right then and there. Put him at Berlin in that shape and he would have gone even faster.
Very Happy for Cam. Not surprised by this performance as it was a long time coming, just worried somehow it might never come.
He wore the carbon rocket which had a plate but obviously hoka "supershoes" have been awful so probably almost no benefit
I don't recognize this model and can't find it on runningwarehouse or hoka website? Can we buy it somewhere?https://i.imgur.com/3ojsGA3.jpgit does not appear to be the same shoe he used a couple months ago for his 63 h...
Great run by cam, great to see him back in great form again. Not sure if he is, but his hair and last name makes me think he might be part Hebrew, if so is this the fastest time ever done by someone of Hebrew ancestry?

I guess spending 30 minutes every day posting on Instagram will leave you exhausted.

Get rid of partying and instagram to save American marathoners! Because of these two sinister things, some American guys are both unable and unwilling to live right. I hope someone will share the earth-shattering news with these poor souls: start training harder, raise the bar! No more of your unprofessional instagram parties!
I find it very interesting how this dude can go from almsot last in the Olympics, struggling performing for the last few years to this.. and everyone is all, this is a great comeback story, proud of him, and yeah yeah yeah, he got better from running tough workouts and more miles… whereas we get any female who goes from better than good to achieving some PRs and it’s all.. they are surely doping, doping, doping… so I’m just curious, how this man can make a great comeback and not once in 3 pages be accused of doping, but any of the top Americans women have a breakout performance and they’ll be accused of doping within 5 posts…
why the double standard?? Why can the male make a comeback and it’s not questioned, but all the females are doped??
I was actually enjoying this thread being congratulatory & with no comments about doping. Why go and change that. fml.
In a championship either you medal or drop out. All he did was hurt his chances of making money in a fall thon. I don’t get why people on here get excited about 5th. In contrast the East Africans see that as failure. Thus why they dominate.
Nike is team Canada apparel sponsor. Probably has a connection or two with the Nike rep in the Portland area, or he buys his shoes just like nearly everyone else.

Just because it works for the Kenyans/Ethiopians doesn't mean it works for us. They may run "only" 120-130mpw but a lot of it's on incredibly hilly terrain and high elevation (a unique training environment different than anything you'd find in the elsewhere). Plus they were born at altitude with a different upbringing/running background, etc. You can't just emulate their training and eventually expect to achieve their results.
I agree with HRE that high volume is a huge factor in marathon success. Even in the US, Colin Mickow went from a college unknown to a 2:11 guy (despite a long hiatus), making the WC team through running 150mpw.
How much time did he gain by wearing Alphaflys vs Hoka? i say 5-10 sec per mile. Anyone know if he is unsponsored? he was wearing nike socks too, so either back with nike or no deal and wore the best shoe he could buy.
Faubs has answered the 'Nike vs. Hoka' question. Slightly less than 1 second per mile faster in Next% than Carbon Rocket. Same course. Similar conditions. The experiment has been held. And Rocket X is definitely faster than Carbon Rocket. Hoka's newest, unavailable to the public, shoe is faster yet.
Now, he wasn't in Alphas, true, but if it's '5-10 sec per mile' (quoting you) he's not under the Boston CR but would be close to Hall's time. Funnny that Rupp in Alphas isn't any faster than Faubs and quite a bit slower than Hall.
