Sounded like the two days a week running doing primarily workouts is pretty recent, like for the past few weeks just after her fracture recovery, but she’s presumably working off of a base with a lot more mileage from before her fracture.
KT already raced her at Regionals. Basically the same race with Valby trying an attack in the Finals that KT just drafted off of until she kicked with tow laps to go.
I don't get caught up in silly discussions of post race etiquette. If there is any, it is for the loser to congratulate the winner.
Every race Valby tries to run from the front. KT tends to do the same thing to avoid getting held up and she has learned to control the rail. I think Valby might by uncomfortable in the pack so she tries to stay in the front on way of the other.
Valby seemed bubbly, genuine, and humble while Tuohy always seems uptight, cold, and arrogant.
What is pool running? How do u do it?
By being bubbly, genuine, and humble and with supermodel looks to boot, she can run on water. You do it by just making yourself like really really light footed.
One thing to remember is these athletes seem to have access to cross-training options that are much more analogous to running than a lot of athletes had access to 20 years ago, or even a lot of athletes have now unless they have the guidance in the form of coaches and parents (which these two clearly do) to seek them out.
I remember being injured 20 years ago, and my options were to hit the stationary bike and/or the pool for aqua-jogging or swimming. The main thing I remember about those options was how difficult (not impossible, but difficult) it was to get my heart rate up the same way I could with running. The elliptical and supported-treadmill options that have been developed or become more available since then make it much easier to work at running intensity without the impact. These athletes can do more than just put in time/volume cross-training. They can do threshold work, etc. which helps them build/maintain a high level of aerobic fitness. Add in a couple of quality running days each week, and they're ready to roll.
Pressure and expectations. Much easier being the hunter and not the hunted. But she won by two seconds easing up at the line and able to look over her shoulder and celebrate with the Pack sign. A lot less stress from here on out.
you do 2-3 workouts a week, then the majority of the aerobic volume is from elliptical/aqua jogging.
my senior year of high school I had 9 months of less than 10 mpw but I was in the pool aquajogging until I could go for anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours a day split into 2 sessions.
as my injury went away I started running a bit more, but no more than 30mpw and ended up running faster than I have ever in my life 1:55 800 and 4:16 mile. sure the shorter distances make this a bit easier…
but it is important to note fitness does not CAUSE fastness, though there is a strong correlation.
Coach Henes told Letsrun that Tuohy was not feeling well, and only toughened it up to win. Hopefully she will be in better condition for U.S. Championships.
Valby runs just as much as others based on her posts, very very high mileage and after she got injured, she trained still but a different type of training(non running workouts), there are a lot of ways to get fit. Gators has all the resources and more.
Commentator said Parker PR by 70 seconds at the SEC meet. Then she PR by 10secs at the NCAAs. Nobody running 2 days a week is going to PR by 70secs in the 5K.

I think it had been a long time since her last 5000 before the SEC meet...maybe back in hs or something
