Mu is currently the most dominant and consistent US runner, and she does it with humility, grace and class, so of course only on letsrun do people have to be vicious and invent reasons to hate her.
If any of the “American born” runners this board salivates over had 1/4 of Mu’s success you would all be creaming yourselves.
Athing was born in the USA. She is tremendous no matter where she was born. That doesn’t mean that posters should place her any more above suspicion than the rest. She is great but when posters write nonsense about how she is the cleanest and best ever, it just seems unnecessary and obviously, potentially false.
And posts about Hodgkinson being doped to the gills? Where are such posts?
I have no problem saying that I am a fan of both Mu and Keely...but I have to agree with this post. Keely is an incredible talent, but Mu has the potential to set some serious records.
I was never a big 800m fan...but these two have got me paying attention!!
Great to see a couple of incredible young talents at the same time!!
meh. only a little faster than Keeley. The way people are talking we're expecting to see a 1:53.
Way too Early Probably 1:54 this year
She will run in the 1:54s this year, when she runs 48 high for 400M in an open 400M race then she will possibly threaten the WR. I feel like Kratochvílová was really a 400M runner but with Marita Koch running 47.60 there was no way she could win consistency at 400M so she had the strength to run the 800M. Mu is an 800M runner but may run under 49 at some point and with her speed and maturity we shall see......fun to watch.
ALL of the top Eastern European 800m women in the 1970s and 1980s were dopers. ALL of them. This is common knowledge based on records that were found after the fall of the former Soviet controlled countries, not to mention many of the athletes themselves successfully suing in court their own governments for forcing them to take drugs in order to remain on the team.
Plus you'll notice that of all the biological female women who have run under 1:55, they all did it before 1990, which is when out of competition drug testing started.
The DSD athletes under 1:55 are Semenya and Jelimo. They are the only two runners listed in the female category who have run sub 1:55 since 1990, and that's only because they are both biological males with testes.
I didn’t want to get into this, but is the Jelimo situation known for sure? I’m sorry I’m a bit ignorant, but all the stuff about her having a baby was fabricated or meant to mislead? I’m not trolling….

Sorry, I missed your next post on Jelimo.
ok, Mu = 800 goat. If not today, then very soon. Keely is amazing too, but it’s hard when you have to compete against a goat. This happens every so often and is not a knock on the other athlete. It’s like Warholm and Benjamin….

Recency bias. You have no clue. Athing could end up the GOAT but she is nowhere close now at age 20.

Mu has tremendous speed, as her 400 shows, but is not an endurance-based athlete, as her mile efforts show. She reminds me more of a Korir or Amos than a Coe. I think it could be closer between her and Hodgkinson than some here tend to think.
I'd say for now Maria Mutola is still the goat until we see someone last as long and be as consistently competitive as she was. She got 5th in her last Olympics in one of the fastest Olympic races in history well into her 30s.

Mutola was a biological male, same as Semenya. Mutola got lucky that they stopped gender testing in the early 1990s and didn't start gender testing again until 2009 with Semenya.

Keely is really good, but we don’t really have a reason to think she is that close to beating Mu. I know people want this to be a classic rivalry. Right now Mu basically just has toyed with her 800 competition including Keely in their two matchups. Today going 56.6, 31 and then dropping 29 low looking easy just seems above Keelys skill-set.

Armstronglivs purpose in life is to shame anyone who thinks Athing Mu is really good.
