World Athletics needs to wake up. Place World Championships in mega city centers. It’s the only way to get eyeballs and grow the sport. I remember when World XC was run in Boston it was freaking amazing.
This should be the topic of the thread. Sydney has numerous national parks right here in the basin, probably 10% of the land. Trail running is booming, yet these clowns cannot find a suitable cross country course??
I can only imagine it is one of those govt 'regional' initiatives..." lets have the World XC in woop woop" that should satisfy them.
This is why the general public don't give a f**K about athletics,,,its just become something you do as a kid, and if you are hopeless at anything else, you keep going.
...and this is coming from a self confessed secobnd tier sportsperson who actually excelled in the shallow pool of national athletics
I think a fair observation. Centennial Park would have been my choice.
But seriously, lets be fair dinkum for a minute, it's a beaut drive and a way to see at least a bit of the country.
To get there you have to drive through the Great Dividing Mountain Range, so ya never on the way through them we pick up a couple of hot sheilas that the mountains are known for, and ya know what they say, "mountin womin love mountin men".
Look forward to seeing you.
Russ.
I'm driving up from Melbourne and it's such a nice drive
So lemme get this straight…down in Australia your train stations are clean, well-lit, and don’t have the mentally ill littered about the station looking to kill travelers?
Nobody would ever visit Bathurst unless there are the WC in Cross Country running there. Bring a tent and sleep with the kangaroos.
Is there a major university with 25k students in Bathurst? Idiot...
Bathurst is a small town, but yes, it does have a major university campus there. CSU. It’s not 25K students in town, but the city isn’t near the size of Eugene either. nor is Oz the size of the US.
In a sense, it’s perfectly appropriate analogy (though BX doesn’t have the running association Eugene does).
Approx #s
US pop = 330 million
OZ = 20 mill
Eugene = 175K
BX = 40K
UofO = 26K
CSU (Bathurst campus) = 2K
It’s not a stretch to equate the 2 at all.
Rojo there certainly used to be commercial flights to BX .. but honestly, if you haven’t been to OZ before, land in Sydney and drive to BX. You’ll rent a car in BX anyway, so just drive from Sydney. Just remember, stay left.
