USADA tested him 0 times in 2020, 4 times in 2021, and 1 time in 2022 until May 27, despite his sub-13 in 2019.
He’s still always subject to random testing. If everyone at BTC is rolling the dice with testing, how is it that Houlihan was the only one to be caught?
Fisher should've moved with a 1000 to go last week. He'd be the 10k champ if he had.
Qualifying for the WC team with minimal effort sounds like a good outcome to me.
Absolutely.
That being said, Grant is the AR holder and is in amazing shape, I guarantee you he wanted to win that race. If he could run it over again he would've moved at 800-1000m out. Any elite runner who is heavily favored in a race will tell you that the bare minimum outcome of any qualifying race is to qualify, but winning is paramount.
There was a time when I was improving very rapidly in workouts but would get the side stitch on the right side that I came to see was the diaphragm spasm. It was holding me back. I read a thread about it here on this website and it was hard to believe, but I tried it out--take in a few deep breaths and hold them a bit and then slowly exhale--and it worked wonders and I ran by far my best ever workouts--pr'ing in workouts without too much strain--after that. They usually had happened when I was going hard on a tempo. The breathing technique really works. Once or twice only the spasm was so painful that I had to stop and work it out, but that again was before the breathing technique.
Yes, this does work but unfortunately it's hard to do properly if you're running at any pace faster than tempo. I sometimes get this type of cramp/spasm, usually seems to be associated with doing a tight turn and/or wind (ie. some kind of abrupt transition). If it's in a workout I can usually hack it until the next rest and then fix it, or if it's a longer tempo slow down a bit for a minute or two to get it under control.
But if in a 10k? Game over.
I don't like to push through it too much since a few times it's resulted in a sort of injury (diaphragm continued to hurt for a few days, even during normal breathing when not running).
The key is to avoid this happening because you're right that it would pretty much kill your chances in a race, so practice avoiding shallow breathing. Some deeper breathing--not too deep--is key.
Is there a single professional sport where it's a good idea for players to go onto fan message boards?
As a corollary - is there any professional sport where the players moan as much about the fans and message boards as athletics?
Yeah it’s pretty pathetic if you ask me. All the brojos are really “guilty” of is creating a place for passionate distance running fans to (generally) discuss running freely. Nowhere else can you find so many educated, opinionated followers of the sport as you can on here. My guess is that if Woody were a 30:xx 10k guy he’d probably be posting here too and loving every minute of it (that is…if he’s not already). The fact that he feels he must publicly color LetsRun as some evil cesspool (again…the biggest fans of his sport) to be avoided is just sad.

If he wins a medal at the WC, he’s still going to be crying in his beer because he finished second at the U.S. championships? I’m not so sure that Klecker will consider this track season to be the finest of his career if he doesn’t finish in the top 10 at WC or set anymore PRs.

Who said everyone is rolling the dice?
But, if you do roll the dice, and glow 30 days per year, and get tested on average 2x per year, you are pretty safe. Even if you get that unlucky that they come on one of your glowing days, just don't open the door and take one strike.
