I don't know why they persist in having the Diamond League in the UK in May. The weather simply isn't consistent enough. OK, so it's 17C and overcast now - but it easily could've been 12 degrees and it just doesn't provide the best kind of event. I'd much rather them hold it in July or August (our hottest months). I know weather isn't guaranteed but if you look on Accuweather or anywhere at monthly records July and August are always massively better than May which can often resemble April (i.e. crap and windy). I know it's difficult to schedule fixtures but it would make so much more sense. I mean everyone is in coats. I remember needing a hot chocolate at one of these. Also, one of the hotter venues could take the earlier slot so it wouldn't be as roasting for their Diamond League event. May is just not good enough weather-wise, especially for the sprinters and field events. Probably the only people it suits are the steeplechasers and 5K women.
Thing is, the warmer early meets (Rabat, Rome) don't want to have the crummy time slot of being just before Pre/the European opener. They'd rather be a bit later when more people are racing and the weather is better. Birmingham is the runt of the litter that can be put wherever because the Brits are just excited to have a DL meet they can stack with home talent.
Great run for Arop, taking control. What has been up with the men’s 800?
I have hoped that Arop would come through. A win is a win, I guess.
M100m no Bracy, and Bromell hugely false starts. Doesn’t smell right. BTW that starter sucked! WTF is the matter with this starter?
I like Arop a lot. He goes for it and dies horribly a lot of the time (which was how I always ran so I have a soft spot for that) but it looks like he held back a bit this time and it paid off
As much as I wish Bromell were allowed to run that was a bad false start. But maybe there was something up with the starter, I could almost sense that something was going to go wrong
