The Young’s posted a video yesterday where they said their lead up to the DMR at Mt SAC looked like this:
Wednesday: tempo
Thurstday: track intervals
Friday: easy run
Saturday: DMR race
Thoughts?
I wouldn’t do a tempo and intervals back to back but maybe the tempo wasn’t that fast. It looks they are training through the early meets of the season which is a good thing.

Yeah, I feel pretty much the same way. I noticed Aaron didn't do a postrace interview, hope he's not beating himself up for running slower than he wanted to, everyone has an off day sometimes, and he had two workouts in his legs.
The video also definitely made me feel better about Leo. I didn't think his illness was serious, but he looked completely fine in the video. Like I said earlier, anyone with a crumb of knowledge about running would know that taking your time to get back into racing after a sickness is the best thing to do. NP has done nothing but run historic times since 2018, so I don't know why after one bad performance everyone starts hopping on the hate train.

Nice try, but no cigar.
Not only does Newbury Park break records, but they win races like we have never seen before.

Wow! This must be a VERY personal topic to you. what is your connection to the team? Please tell me you’re not just a fan or this kind of reaction is WAY over the top. NP359 spent the first part of his post saying how good they are. There is no argument about their greatness. However, there is some pretty strong evidence they are not CURRENTLY running their best right now. Doesn’t diminish their accomplishments. They may come back at the end of the season, run even better and break all the world records. Take a deep breath. Nobody is saying your kid is bad, just that they might possibly be in a bit of a slump or struggling a bit. It’s OK.

Could have saved yourself a bunch of typing and just said, yeah but they're fast.
5 sub 9 2-milers on one team. Despite slight recent setbacks, this is still the best amalgamation of distance runners on one team by a long ways. Hope Leo can make it back and peak with the rest of the in time for state and post-season glory.
NP has done nothing but run historic times since 2018, so I don't know why after one bad performance everyone starts hopping on the hate train.

The 3000 and 3200 races in Feb were perfectly set up races with pacers and/or people dragging them to the finish. I agree that Arcadia was a let down, but they think it's because of the tactics they used, and I'm happy with the explanation that they ran just off of their PRs due to poor tactics. At worst, they are in a little worse than the shape they were in back in Feb, but they still have 2 months left in the season, so I don't think that this is as fast as they're gonna get. Don't forget, Leo ran 4:00 and Lex ran 4:04, those are two big PRs for them, and they were just before Arcadia. I'm gonna hold off a little longer before I think they peaked early when they still have 2 months left in the season.
Also, I don't think Leo is out for the remainder of the year, is he? All I know is they withdrew because he wasn't gonna run Penn, but he missed a few meets indoors because he was injured and came back to run 4:00 in March. I thought they were just trying not to rush him back to racing.
I could be wrong, but I think the people saying that the athletes with 2 months left in the season peaked early because they're not running as fast as they were indoors are reaching more than me, saying they probably had a bad race and aren't quite at their peak yet.
On May 7th, feel free to bring this back up to me, but I'll bet now that Colin runs under 13:40 and Lex runs under 3:42 at the Sound Running meet. I have faith that the team who's been running great consistently for years knows more about their training than random LR posters.
On May 7th, feel free to bring this back up to me, but I'll bet now that Colin runs under 13:40 and Lex runs under 3:42 at the Sound Running meet.
I realize that things could change over the next week, but according to the Sound Running site you got the events backwards. Right now Colin is scheduled to run the 1500 and Lex is scheduled to run the 5k.
I predict that Colin runs 3:43 and Lex runs 13:48.
We're talking about high school boys here. 16 and 17 year old kids. Think back to when you were their age. How many of you broke 8 for the 3k your junior year of high school. Right, 0. How bout 14:0X in cross? 0 . 3:58 indoor mile? Still 0
Lots of the greats would have if given the shoes, training knowledge, and tracks!
Given those, Ryun would've gone :45, 1:43, 3:49, 7:30 in HS (it should be noted, Ryun ran his first track meet at age 15 and had a mile pr of 5:38...and ran 3:54 three years later at age 18 beat World best Peter Snell....NP guys are good but none are close to world class) Ritz, Pre, Goucher, Ches, Fisher, Hunter, Derrick, Solinsky, all would've benefited seconds or 10s of seconds off their PRs if competing HS today.
Even us "mortals" that had 4:10s, 1:52s, 9:06s and 15:00 would've been hitting 4:05 1:50, 8:55 and 14:45 today.
Time will tell, but likely, just as soon as the NP boys are done re-writing the distance record books , they too will be displaced by the next "best ever". ...But I seriously doubt that one single school will ever have the same concentration of National class athletes on one team again.
I have nothing but respect for what Brosnan has accomplished, but if that story is true, and if he was aware, that is more than just a "poor decision." I'd call it pointless and irresponsible.
It true. Brosnan stated in last L& L video it was not a good decision to run Leo at Arcadia.

Leo was very sick for a week with a 103 fever the day before Arcadia. Even if his coach was OK with Leo running Arcadia, why did his parents let him run?
When I was in high school there is zero chance my parents would have let me run if I was in that condition.

I just watched the video I think you’re referring to. Lex said Leo had been sick for 2 weeks, was on antibiotics, had a 101 fever and was delirious. If all that is true, that is a really bad choice to allow him to compete. The coach should absolutely be in control of that. For a coach that appears to control so much in those kids lives, he didn’t put the health and safety of Leo first.

The coach is putting the kids health first and ended his season. They also said in an interview that Leo told the coach he was fine and felt great before Arcadia. It wasn’t until the coach knew something was really wrong after the race. Kids will do anything to race and the coach has taken the higher road and cut his season short for exactly what you’re saying “put his health first”
and we now have people blaming the coach for running him , not running him. When does this madness with with you MB crazies. He’s resting to kick this infection.
leo is a good kid that made a poor choice to run being really sick and his coach made a good decision. The opposite of what you’re insinuating . All they said was it’s a viral infection. That can be mild or something that can take weeks with proper rest.
Sometimes you critics need to see the good and stop creating a bad narrative about nothing.
