A muscular overload can happen, but often it is a too strong training too early that leads to injury. That is true for all kind of sports. So i would think about changing your training a little bit.
A below 5 minutes for a mile for a 50yo male, is for J. Daniels a 8/10 in his ranking table. 9 and 10 is professional level :) So yes, a good challenge.
