The Youngs and Sahlmans live in Camarillo, which is only 10 minutes away from NPHS according to Google Maps. People drive 10 minutes to get to the HS within their school zone all the time. And they weren't even recruited for running. NPHS was nothing special before Brosnan arrived. They came because NPHS has better academics and less issues with crime compared to their local school.
Wrong. The Sahlmans were 100% recruited to NPHS for running. They are far from scholars. NPHS was nothing special before the Youngs and Sahlmans arrived and will be nothing special once they are gone.
I disagree. There are many examples of top tiers of talent lifting the high water line for a program, making it a long-lasting program. Will NPHS ever have a quartet like they do now? Never say never, but highly doubtful. Will they continue to be highly successful by most all other standards? Yes. The training these guys are doing will set such a high bar for the guys already there, and there is a long-lasting effect on classes to come.

Disagree based on what? Their training plan that I’m sure you’ve thoroughly analyzed. The workouts posted on videos?
Look at the times their 9th and 10th graders are running. They have one fast kid. You have totally bought the hype that somehow their training is superior to all other teams. How insulting to all the other great high school coaches in California and the rest of the country. Great kids make great coaches, not the other way around.

I think they will have a solid quartet next year. They are only losing C Sahlman. The one who will replace him will be either Doshi or Martinez.

might agree with this only because the top 4 were in the same youth track club at a very young age. Runners , 6, 7 and 8 were also from other youth track clubs so for all to end up in the same school is not an accident.
What’s the issue with Brosnan? it’s very difficult to see any issues with a guy that appears to be the highest level coach ever known.
whatever he is doing, seems to be magical.
I’m not criticizing his coaching, more so how he goes about it/his personality. He loves the limelight and I generally don’t like people like that. That’s all. Let the kids be the stars.
I don’t doubt he’s doing special things with these kids, but let’s save the “magical” for when these two families are no longer at NP.
Not sure about a magical recipe and yes he does come out as if he's trying to steal the spotlight. As for his training? You need to be an idiot to screw up 6 to 8 8 graders that can run under 4:40s in the 1600 meters before entering high school.

The truth is you don't think anyone can really do what he is doing, you are unhappy with yourself, because the successful coaches are a reflection of what you wish to be.

Good luck and be positive, life is short.
What exactly is he doing? He's not winning any of the races. And yes you really need to be a bozo to screw up the talent he has. Those kids all were varsity caliber runners as freshman. Some were running since age 7. No other school is fortunate to have experienced runners land in a span of 2 years. Something was cooking there.. Its only obvious.

I feel bad for you.
Don't. I'm not the one recruiting. I'll be fine. :)
Don't. I'm not the one recruiting. I'll be fine. :)
Feelings of hatred or intense emotional dislike develop for many reasons. People might begin to dislike or be jealous of another person or group when they:
1. Feel envy or want what the other person has. They may consider it unfair that someone has what they lack.
2. Have contempt for another person or believe them to be inferior.
3. Learn hatred from parents, their community, or other social groups.

or option 4.
The person is genuinely dislikable, doing things the majority of people find off putting.
The latest NYT article on NPHS is funny. They talk about what a victim he is because there have been 14 CIF rules violations complaints filed against him that were all bogus. I find it much more likely the majority of those complaints had merit, but he lies and cheats and the regulating body isn't doing a grand jury quality investigation and drops it. Anyone in high school administration knows it's nearly impossible to enforce rules like recruiting violations and people get away with stuff all the time.

So you can google... very nice. BTW I don't hate on the dude.. I just don't buy into praising him like most of you tools do.
Why not when interviewed say, I'm grateful to have a quality group of runners who are willing to work and achieve their goals VS They follow MY plan and I knew we would break the national record because I had this magical recipe of a master plan. lmao.
This is the MO of the Brosnan cult followers (or more likely, Brosnan himself posting under different names). If you don’t heap unwarranted praise on him or feed his ego, there must be something wrong with you and we should feel sorry for you. You could only be a loser or have mental health issues if you don’t think he’s the greatest. By the way, don’t ever call out his breaking rules or lying about his accomplishments (like the 9x-all American fiasco) or your posts will be deleted and you’re just a jealous hater.
Maybe keep the hate and jealousy off the MB's and it wont get deleted. I live in California, but no relation or connection to Newbury Park. I have seen them run in person once at the State Cross Country Championship. I am a fan of the program.
I think what you're saying if a reflection of yourself. This is the reason you seem to rant on about thinking a coach cares enough to reply. I personally find the MD's good and bad. The good is amazing to get advise and results. The bad are people like yourself.
I would imagine the Newbury Park coach and other top coaches could care less what a person like yourself posts about. After all they are busy with their day jobs and coaching. You are busy posting negative subjects in order to make yourself feel better. I was in the same boat in the past.
I have wanted to post negative information about coaches and athletes in the past. Then I took a long look at myself and asked the questions: why? What am I contributing by posting this? I realized quickly it was jealousy and I was ashamed of myself for almost posting about people and their situations I really did not have full knowledge of. This is why I'm replying to the false or negative posts from time to time.
I'm a fan of elite running and love what Newbury Park is doing. The coach and the kids themselves. It's just good for the sport.
With all due respect "Don't hate, but contribute or learn in order to be a better person"
Quick, start a petition to get these guys into Penn or some pro field to set the world record!!!! They are sooooooo close to all running sub 4. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
dude they just took 30+ seconds off the national record, please consider going outside
There was a lot of hype about going under 16 minutes.

When you’re at the top people come after you. Like what’s going on in this thread. No one is posts jealous content about the team getting second place at the state meet every year. It’s human nature and sad to hate and accuse the great ones that do the unbelievable.
It’s takes a special person to create great results in sport, business and education.
You must of never been great or outstanding at anything if you don’t understand this concept.
dude they just took 30+ seconds off the national record, please consider going outside
There was a lot of hype about going under 16 minutes.
16:29 is a bit below expectations
Actually, there wasn't a lot of hype about them going under 16 minutes, just a few random LR posters. Most posters predicted somewhere in the range of teens through twenties. 16:29 may be at the high end of the predicted range but it's still in the ballpark.
Think of every excellent high school cross country or track team for the last 70+ years, no one came within 30 seconds of Newbury Park’s 16:29:30 today. Not mine, not yours, not the great 1974 Hammond, Indiana team with three sub 9:00 two milers, not any of Joe Newton’s excellent York teams, not any NXN winning team, not any national 4 x 1 national champion. Many colleges in 2022 run slower indoors, on or before March 12. Outdoor is coming and they are now only competing with themselves, on the high school level. They ran faster that the first four finishers in the mile in the same national meet today. Amazing.
American Fork - 16:41
American Fork ran 4 x 1600 in 16:41, not a 4 x mile, that roughly translates to a 16:49, so it is still a whopping 20 second difference. Even if American Fork replaced their 4:26 leg with Newbury Park's slowest leg, or if American Fork had super shoes, they still don't win a head to head matchup.
