This is great. About 98% of people on the thread were 4:10-4:20 milers in HS. I am smelling the noxious odor of cow dung and it is wafting from this thread....

I don't think people are BS'ing. Here's what I think happened: the first couple of posters had impressive mile PRs. After that standard was established, everyone who didn't break 4:40 for the mile in High School was too embarassed to post. Obviously, there are a lot more 4:50 milers around than there are 4:20 miles. But only the faster ones are posting.
7th grade 9:27 (5' 1" 125 lbs)
8th grade (started PE running when PE involved PHYSICAL Ed.) 8:36 down to 6:12
9th grade 5:29
10th 5:09
11th 4:52
12th 4:40 (5' 9" 125 lbs)
(all of these were on yards tracks = 1 full mile)
College, 4:09 1500, then was convinced I was not a college athlete! lol.
I do not think that most of these are unrealistic, particularly with guys. GUys mature physically over the course of high school. Big growth spurts, more testosterone, etc.
I figure a 5:00 freshie is about 4:35 on general progession, A 4:50 is a sub 4;30 generally, and if you are running 4:45 as a freshmen( particualrly if this is your first year of real running) then you are hauling %#$ and could easily be in the 4:15- 4;20 range.
Of course you are going to have your boys that hit puberty on their 3rd birthday and were shaving in Kindergarten, and their progression won't be as great, but a kid who is a late bloomer can easily go from 4:50 - 4:20 by graduation.
As for me:
9th 5:06
10th 4:50 did not break 5 until last race of season.
11th 4:50
12th 4:33
College 4:20 - what a great number eh. ran it my senior year.
9- 5:02
10- 4:50
11- injured, hobbled out a 5:12
12- not going to race this year
9th- 5:36
10th- 5:21
11th- 4:57
12th(as of xc tt)- 4:43
9th 6:35
10th 6:00
11th 4:54
12th 4:31
didnt start running XC until my junior year and i ran track as a sprinter before that.
Freshman: cross-5:35, track-4:37
Sophomore: 4:28
Junior: 4:34
Senior: 4:27
Didn't race the mile fresh very much during my last two years. Two mile progression went 10:29, 9:55, 9:38, 9:32.

No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
Does not wanting my kids to watch a bisexual threesome at the Olympics make me a bigot?
