The number one cross county runner in the US right now is Patrick Kiprop- D.2 Fresno Pacific. Will dominate the D.2 race and can run with anyone D1.

No he can't. How would he get in the race? He's obviously not smart enough for d1.
1. Mantz
2. Clinger
Byu for the team win. Go Cougs!
Chances of winning:
Mantz 30%
Kiptoo 20%
Wildlschutt 15%
Teare 15%
Kioko 10%
Someone else: 10%
As a side note, what's going on with Teare? How do you go from dominating the 5,000 like he did to being so meh? I figured he would be dominating this Fall with how great he looked in the Summer.

Actually I think a score of about 85 would be right for BYU. Not sure where that would place them. I do hope I see some of the above though!

There's a nice thread on who will be top 10 for the women. So let's start one for the men. Jonathan Gault predicts the top 3 for you in this preview.
1. Mantz 2. Kiptoo 3. Wildschutt
Alternatively, Bijan H. Mazaheri's algorithm has the top 10 as follows.
1 Wesley Kiptoo 13:18 (13:14 - 13:23) Iowa State JR
2 Adriaan Wildschutt 13:22 (13:17 - 13:28) Florida State JR
3 Conner Mantz 13:22 (13:15 - 13:30) BYU JR
4 Cooper Teare 13:23 (13:15 - 13:33) Oregon SR
5 Nico Young 13:24 (13:19 - 13:30) Northern Arizona FR
6 Abdihamid Nur 13:24 (13:19 - 13:30) Northern Arizona SO
7 Eduardo Herrera 13:24 (13:21 - 13:28) Colorado SR
8 Athanas Kioko 13:24 (13:17 - 13:33) Campbell SR
9 Isai Rodriguez 13:25 (13:15 - 13:36) Oklahoma State JR
10 Dylan Jacobs 13:27 (13:22 - 13:33) Notre Dame JR
Whoa, is that Bob Dylan's kid?

I'm honestly a bit surprised that Clinger hasn't quite been able to break through to the next level. Don't get me wrong, he's really good. 2x All-American already. But he was so dominant in HS. I figured he would be nipping at the heels of Kiptoo and Mantz by this Fall. He had a great race at regionals, but that's always tough to interpret. Maybe he'll have a breakthrough race at nationals.

Don't EVER give up on Clinger!

I don't know how hard they pushed at regionails but Clinger was just a little behind Nico and when Nico made a break for it, I don't think Clinger tried to stay with. At nationals, if Clinger is that close at the end I think he will take scalps.

Honestly, from the video of the race, it looked like Mantz was the only person really going for the win. Everybody else, even Nico, just cruised it in.

To be fair, Mantz always looks like pinching a giant loaf.

Teare is better than Hocker at the longer distances. Hocker is a great talent but would probably be between places 15-20, perhaps higher, in the NCAA XC finals. He definitely would not be top 10.
*claps* Congratulations. On a message board which reeks of garbage takes, this just might be the garbage-est take of them all.
Awww, I see that we have a little Hocker fanboi that is triggered and melting down.
I never said that Cole isn’t a good runner. He’s a great runner. He's one of the best young talents, in fact. We’re talking about XC here and I don’t see him in the top 10 in this hypothetical argument.
If I can’t express my opinion without you getting your little panties in a twist, then you need to seek help, little fanboi. Start by staying off of this forum in which people express their opinions. Don't be a crybaby.
Hocker would easily win.

A dogfight indeed, but Wildschutt looked so smooth & relaxed when he basically tempoed an ACC title last month, difficult to imagine Mantz or Kiptoo breaking him this week. Brought to mind that old line about Viren in ‘72, “…there’s been a certainty about his running in the past six weeks…”
Agreed. I was at South Regionals and Wildschutt looked incredible. He barely even looked like he was trying. I think he definitely has all the momentum to win it if he's lined up at 100%. I do think with Kiptoo and Mantz in the mix that the race could go either way. Kiptoo could take them out so fast it changes the whole race.
Kioko hasn't run against competition all fall. Guaranteed win. He'll sit in the first half and then tear people apart the last 2k. Reports out of the Campbell camp are that his workouts have been absolutely absurd.

He's a dark horse. Probably all hype, but enough chance of being the real deal that he's got people's attention. Unlikely he'll beat the reigning dominant champion, Kiptoo, Teare, Young and a host of others in a historically top heavy field.
Cooper Teare for the win.

Correct.
