Lexy Halladay will be running at nationals. BYU strategically held out their #1 #4 and #5 from WCC. They would have won the mountain region handily if it was a key race.

She’s my shock runner-up pick (behind Chelangat).

Maybe. New Mexico and Colorado is good too, especially New Mexico in my opinion. And they didn't run everyone either. It's hard to draw any conclusions about the contenders from the regionals. But yes, Halladay, Orton and I think Lee were the ones that BYU sat out.
I don't think it was strategic, I think a lot of BYU's Runners of dealing with some minor injuries. It's like, did they strategically tell Orton to run a minute slower for 5K Nationals then she had earlier in the season. Let's face it if you're missing multiple meets in a season that only has five or six meets to begin with then obviously there are some issues that are being dealt with....

Agreed. Orton is a wildcard. So is Steelman.
I agree

You don’t get it! And you don’t know as much as you think you do. You should take a look in the mirror before calling people fanboys when you are the one who starts entire threads on Tuohy.
Starliper is one of the great talents to come out of HS and if she is at 80% she is better than their 6 and 7 runners on the team. They are running for a title this weekend and they will put in their best lineup possible even if Starliper is not in 100% race shape. Obviously they are considering it since she was on the regionals list.
And it is plain out disrespectful to think she is not working as hard as everyone else on the team to get on the line. Your favorite runner (Tuohy) was not 100% at Nationals last year but look what she did…… her 24th finish was the reason the team got 2nd. Clairmonte was at best 80% but was their 5th at Nationals which also lead to the runner up finish. She was their number one runner before she got sick and injured. Should Coach Henes have not left Tuohy and Dominique run since they were not 100% and put in runners that were working hard all season???? No. She put in what she thought was their best chance of winning. And I’m sure Tuohy and Dominique were not just sitting on the couch! Don’t you realize that rehabbing and cross training is one of the hardest physical and mental battles a runner can go through? If you know anything about running you would know this to be true.
So nobody knows if Starliper is going to run, but if you are a NC State fan as you proclaim, you should stop all the Starliper bashing and hope she is doing well and if she can help the team in anyway, you should be happy about that.
i talk about touhy, chmiel, steelman and all other nc state runners, BUT WHY IS IT THAT YOU ALWAYS PUT MARLEE STARLIPER ON EVERY NC STATE CONVERSATION? DUDE, PLS WAKE UP, GIRL KEPT GETTING INJURED. STOP TALKING ABOUT SOMEONE WHO HAVENT EVEN RAN ONE RACE IN COLLEGE... IN LIKE 2 YEARS ,,,LMAO

Yeah…….it was going to be 7empest or Lateralus! Good to know someone on the boards knows what the screen name comes from!
Callie Logue for 4th place. Hasz twins for 9th and 10th.

??? Sitting out runners because they're injury-prone (e.g. Orton) is definitely strategic. Maybe Orton won't be there for nationals, but I really, really doubt it. She's won both races she entered, including the WCC meet a couple weeks ago. As for outdoor nationals, she had a bad meet. It happens. I think she actually ran better at the Olympic Trials, which was shortly thereafter.

Again, regionals is not an important race for the top contenders. They're often just trying to get through it with as little effort as possible. If you're hoping that Orton doesn't run at nationals, I think you're going to be disappointed. I fully expect her to be out there.

Wolfgram ahead of Tuohy? At the 2028 Marathon OT, maybe, but not this weekend. A pudgy Tuohy could still grab 3rd, Wolfgram no higher than 15th. Expect a British Commonwealth champ in both races: Chelangat or McCabe, Kiptoo or Wildschutt.
You're a tool. Katelyn Tuohy is in no way, shape, or form, "pudgy." She is a powerful runner and very strong. JMO, but she is one of the most defined muscularly of all the women runners. If the race was in the slop I would put her as the favorite based on her strength as a runner. She could probably snap your twiggy ass in half.
She has been running well this year and I expect her to continue to do so. I'm enjoying seeing her flip the bird to all of the haters with her running.
i agree
I had a dream that Amanda Vestri won when Chelangat fell at the tape so Im going with that (even though I hate Syracuse...). Then the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz came in third but thats probably less likely...
If you read the preview on the front page of letsrun it states BYU coach Diljeet Taylor strategically rested Orton this fall. Most top programs will resty runners multiple races during the xc season.
Another perspective by the Wood Report
Interesting outlook...always good to hear someone else's take.
I've never listened to him before, but good perspectives.
I will say that I'm surprised at a few of the predictions. Forbes seems high to me (not knocking her at all, but I would surprised at a top 10) and Roe seems low. No Steelman (probably depending on injury) , and no love for Tyynismaa (not great results so far, but has shown she can compete at the big meets).
Kimeli at third would be interesting...she is one of the few that could go for broke and try to push the field.
Will be fun to watch.

I guess my point is that it seems more necessity than strategy.... no matter what they're getting into the finals , so I don't think there is some complex strategy at play
It's not rocket science, they're going to have a shot to win a National Championship and bottom line is obviously you do what you have to do to have your runners in best form
Whitney Orton hasn't run that well since last April or beginning of May or whenever it was that she had that super fast 5k. And the whole team hasn't looked as strong as last year. Yeah maybe they'll bounce back and have a great finals
But I think the runners who have been looking strong all year and haven't had to Miss multiple meets will be the ones that are on the individual top 5
