Hopefully, American record holder and sub-9:00 woman Courtney Frerichs now gets the attention she deserves on this board going forward. She appears to be a less talk, more action kind of woman and that has likely earned her the respect of her Kenyan rivals.

Coburn will never be close to her again. Coburn will retire after barely making the US team in 2024.

I predict Coburn will miss the team in '24. Constein will get better, maybe O'Fallon, so will Frerichs, and there is sure to be one or more of the current group of college stars to emerge as international class by then. Coburn will come back after this year, but she's on a downward trend overall.

Emma Coburn looked gassed a couple laps before the bell lap. In the Olympics final. What the heck is wrong? In previous races she always made a charge late in the race. But now she looks too tired before the bell lap. She isn't running the same. I don't think it's off the wall to think could she be pregnant?

No. She lost focus when she saw Frerichs take the lead.

Idk why there's so much doubt about Coburn on this board. We are talking about someone who has schooled Courtney every single time after Courtney ran 9:00 years ago in monaco and beat her. This is including the trials which was only 2 months ago. Emma also has superior top end speed as well. She didn't become a house name by giving up that easily. Sure, she's 30, but it's not like Courtney is a spring chicken as far as steeplers go, either.

The first step was to Duck Courtney at Pre . Emma will never beat her again. I could see Norris switching to steeple , and being close to Courtney . 2024 is a long way away for a 30+ year old that is getting less athletic and slower every day .

My thoughts as well. I dunno, maybe she just peaked out too quickly this year and it all hit her like a train in the final. Weird things happen. Albert Salazar was plagued by these things in 1984 and it took him years to come back enough to win that ultra. I hope that she opens up more over time and we can maybe understand what happened.
