Why is it not too surprising that a guy who ran 3:31 in Monaco a couple of months before, finished 10th in his heat? He was supposed to be on the same level as Jakob, yet Jakob apparently went home devastated after finishing 5th and 4th.
Yet he absolutely bombs in Doha just after his brother conveniently hurts his ankle in training, at the end of a strange season for both of them.
Will be interesting to see how Tim fares in Monaco. If he does poorly (as all his fans even are predicting), then it's reasonable to question whether the lockdown and disappointment at the Olympics postponement are the only causes.
Point of order, he ran 3:31.49 for 6th to be clear. Grice ran much faster in the same race and he didn't even make the British team, so a one-off fast time only means so much.
Jakob was running 2nd in pretty much every 1500 that DL season, he was undoubtedly the better athlete by Doha. Can't really see the comp. I know Manangoi beat him in some juniors comp, but it seems that was more about Jakob underachieving/not being the best finisher in championship races than Manangoi.
G. Manangoi badly mishandled his heat, but he's an inexperienced athlete who had broken 3:35 once in his life, and was only 18 at the time. Tefera was only 7th in that heat. The whole top 10 was .7 apart.
