Wow. Even more than I was recalling. And none ran sub 4 in HS.
Brazier ran 1:47.55 and Rupp was 13:37, both are well under the equivalent standard.

Those two runners under 3:30 have something in common, neither grew up in the US. Our high school system is prone to developing athletes the wrong way, emphasizing anaerobic work over the necessary aerobic base work succeed later in life.

So what. We aren't talking about Jakob.

Steve Scott did not emphasize aerobic work in H.S., but managed to run 3:47 later on. Maybe he ran that fast because he was incredibly talented.
Here's another look (with some awesome music to back it up) from TRP
No splash page for Daschbach, SMH. These kids go out in a season without track. Organize a renegade mile. The kid runs his guts out with a massive negative split and we can't treat him the same as the other high school sub 4 guys. Man, things have changed.
Awesome video. The pacer really did mess up the second lap.

Who ever let that event happen at Oakridge needs to be fired! NO social distancing. School is closed. What not have a swim meet too, and an AAU hoop game in the gym? And football practice?

https://www.edcgov.us/That all sounds good to me. Most people have been partying all weekend across the country and you are worried about a track meet. Some of you babies are going to have a hard time getting back to the real world.

exactly. If you guys are so worried about a few kids running together, than why aren't you protesting the thousands flocking to the beaches, lakes, and living their completely normal lives?

Good grief those times are absolutely disgusting for a high school athlete.
What amazing talent and hard work these two guys have!!

I don't know, it's all over YouTube, people on LRC are talking about it, everyone recognizes his time as the real deal. It's legit in everyone's minds.
I think this will be remembered for a long time and he is absolutely one of the greatest HS runners ever. Nobody can take that away from him.
Can't wait to see what Leo does next!
TRP is the freakin GOAT of YouTube
What impresses me most about this is the resilience to keep training at a high level despite the status of his season and to similarly not let this race's pacing derail his assault on 4 minutes. Daschbach has some serious steel between his ears to go with his great wheels and it will be great to see him develop over the coming years!

Go figure the most outraged over the GA murder case also suggest calling the authorities over a track race.
He now has PRs of 1:49, 3:59, and 14:14 (5K XC). Leo must be one of the best all around HS distance runners we've ever seen.

We keep getting High Schoolers who run under 4 Minutes in the Mile, but we still have only 2 Men(Sydney Maree and Bernard Lagat) who have gone under 3:30 for the 1500, why are our Young athletes not Developing as they should, if you can run under 4 minutes in the Mile at age 16-18 with a High School Coach, teammates who just happened to live near the school, on Mediocre Tracks with no pacers and very little if any competition, while having a Full Academic Load why can't they go under 3:30 for 1500 with a Professional Coach, Training Partners who are the best from all over the USA, no academic distractions, races set up on the best tracks in the World with the best pacers and competition? If you can run under 4 Minutes in High School, you should be able to run well under 3:30 after College, all these kids should be challenging El G's record of 3:26.00 as Pros
Because 18 year olds are grown men.
We as an American society put a arbitrary number on “adulthood” but at puberty you’re an adult in most societies.
Yes you can get somewhat faster after the age 18 but for these mid distances the goose is typically already cooked. Especially if significant training has taken place.
Norway Jakob has been doing pro development training since the age of 8. Once he hit puberty he took off with all that training. I would say though don’t expect him to get much faster at the 1500. He might grab a few more seconds but don’t think he’ll go from 3:30 to 3:20. Probably more like 3:28 will be his max.
So the same for these sub 4 high schoolers. Most will only grab 3-5 more seconds of they continue in the sport. The thing is at the world class level a 3:55 miler cutting it.
Meant to say “ain’t cutting it.”
