I assume your sale was a gain, but still would like to know. I assume ETFs are treated the sane as stocks. True?

Sally V,
Yes, generally. However, someone could sell USO and buy IOH and not be subject to the rule (hope I got the symbols right). In the example mentioned both are related and affected by oil prices, but they are not like investments.

Sally V,
OK, got the context of the question. I made the trade inside my IRA.

Do wash sales not apply to a sale inside an IRA?
The absolutely meaningless drivel thrown around on this thread is hilarious.
At least it's hilarious. The absolutely meaningless driven thrown around in your post is just lame.
Sally V,
There are no tax issues for buying or selling inside an IRA, therefore wash sales do not apply.

So we agree then. Your drivel is hilarious.
Thanks for the clarification, Igy.

I hope the market continues to drop. ~16,500 Dow would be a great place (that would be in correction territory from the high of 18,351).
Genius. A 10% drop in the value of your equity holdings is always something to hope for.
If you don't understand how a correction (that is a 10% move, usually a decline that we are all taking about now, in the market) benefits the long-term health of the stock market, then you really don't need to be commenting on a thread about the stock market.
It's a shame that alot of people who have been following this thread for the past two years have bought in to these doomsayer predictions and have been (and will continue) losing alot of money.

Close, but my Accord is a 2005! 94,000+ miles and will last for another 10 years if I want it to because I only put about 5,000 miles on it a year now. Kind of bored with it though. Might sell it when my daughter goes to college and just drive the 2006 Scion xA around town.

I'm glad you agree!
Junk Master,
Watch it. I drive a 2001 Buick LeSabre. At least I am not one of the typical American car poor population. One of the trillion dollared indentured servants. And none of them OWN their cars, they are BUYING a car on TIME.

In my case, it's a 2010 Mercedes S430, and because I bought it with a 1.9% car loan instead of taking the money out of Pimco Total Return to pay cash, I have $13000 more in my account, and yes, the car is mine now. Could I afford to pay cash for a new Mercedes? Sure, but why would I want to when that would leave me with less money?
If you and Flagpole listened to Benjamin Graham or Peter Lynch and owned stocks, you could do that too.
coach d,
Good for you. I still own my Pimco Total Return Fund and did not have to pay the 1.9% compounded interest. My 2001 Buick LeSabre is a pretty comfortable car by the way.
I'll stay net short on the market for now.
