There will never be another year like last year. We had 8 guys sub 4:15 and 9 girls sub 4:38. Heidesch and Noe are the best all time.
Might not have 8 sub 4:15 this coming track season but Heidesch will not end up the best Iowa all time, in next couple years he will be passing that crown of being called king of Iowa on to someone else.
Impossible. He is top 20 all-time in the mile. Nobody coming close to that. Zuber is a stud but I expect him to run around 4:05/8:50. There were several great freshmen this year. Time will tell. Dunham is another one who will likely run 4:05/8:50. Ten Pas seems to have leveled off already. Merrick has been at it a long time. I expect him to top out around 4:08/8:55.

“Never” is a long time. No reason to believe Iowa won’t have some big competitive years in the next 25+ years, and it could happen relatively soon if last year was a harbinger or indicative of a trend.
Odds are against any current Iowa HS kids surpassing Heidesch’s resume, but there’s certainly some promising young talent. Zuber, Merrick, Dunham, Flori, the Gilbert freshmen…lots of kids with a chance to smash 9 minutes.
I’m not sure if Noe is the Iowa HS GOAT. She’s tier 1 for sure, but Katie Flood ran 4:28/9:27 + won some 800 titles, won three 4A XC titles and set a state meet record, and won NXN (admittedly when it was less competitive). She and a couple of others still belong in the discussion.

Odds are against any current Iowa kid’s surpassing Heidesch resume? Really? This won’t age well either

Merrick improved a lot from his freshman XC season to NXN this year. He might top out at 4:08/8:55, but it’s a silly and disrespectful assumption for a kid who ran 4:14 and 9:12 as a freshman. 4:08/8:55 sounds about right for his sophomore season. I’m hoping for the best for him beyond that.
