Didn't they all get injured at the end of last season because they had been doing like 60-70 mile weeks since June?
I hope they are a little smarter about their insane milage this year.
I think the amount of kids that run that much mileage is very low. They run their weekly runs pretty chill.
I do think that there are some runs that happen that are pretty dumb, like their weekly 8th Street session. 2000' of climbing, but that 2000' of descending. They had boys that were running 5:48 pace descending 400' per mile, running 6:07 pace average for 5 miles while descending 1,748 feet. That's a -6.7% grade average. All three of those guys are cross training a few days later.
It's no wonder guys come out of that session beat up.
Rocky wins boys race without Heemeyer (#1 - top 10 in nation give or take) and without Goggins. (#5).
Last year, the team was roughly top 10-15 in the nation, and averaged 16:42.
This year, without Heemeyer or Goggins, they averaged 16:51.
Last year's Rocky Mountain's issue was that they had no real 6 or 7 that could help them if any of the top 5 struggled. Cody Lucas struggled last year at Tiger Grizz. Last year's team averaged 16:29 1-4. If Cody ran where he normally did, they would have averaged around 16:33.
Injuries are part of a team and part of a season. That's part of Rocky's reality right now, and if they get Landon back, they have no guarantees that he's going to be as effective as he was last year. Parker Goggins very well could have had his best race of the season at Caldwell, especially if he misses significant time. Besides, if Landon is back, Parker Goggins slides back to their #6 guy.
Just for the record, Rocky's speed ratings at Caldwell (so we can look back at the end of the season and see how they stacked up): 177.53 (Lucas), 163.43 (Richardson), 163.13 (Jensen), 158.00 (Miller), 156.63 (Goggins) 155.30 (Kurtz). We'll see how much Rocky improves on those speed ratings by the end of the season.

One of their Coaches is Marisa Howard (one of the best steeplechasers in the US). She utilizes cross training quite a bit in her training so I imagine Rocky views cross training in a much more positive way than most running nerds on letsrun. It’s a tool to smartly add non impact volume each week. Heemeyer rolled his ankle in their bogus race that has been clearly stated. Looks like Goggins had a small setback, but that’s where depth helps.

He struggled at NXR last year too
And they didn't go to NXN because of it.
People would have talked about Rocky Mountain the same way they talked about CDA if Hunter Hill didn't transfer in. A pretty good team that lacked a 5 that prevented them from being a really good team. Hunter Hill moving there allowed them to be a team with a really good 1-5 but had way too big of a gap from 5 to 6 if anything went wrong.
There is a poster that makes the repeat posting about Rocky's top track times would place them at whatever spot at NXR. That's taking a one off time that doesn't even convert well and trying to place it into a field without accounting for any of the other factors.
Rocky is a really good team. They aren't a top 15 team, even with Heemeyer, like the other guy is trying to say. Cody Lucas was Rocky's 4th or 5th all season, and he ran 15:57 at Caldwell last year. Counting Landon, Rocky's 4th runner ran 16:05 and their 5th ran 16:21. Keith U was between Rocky's 3rd and 5th runner depending on the meet, and he ran 15:51. Rocky's #3 ran 16:04 this year. Last year's Caldwell Twilight was in the low 90's at race time. This year's was 10 degrees cooler.
They are clearly a step behind where they were at this time last year and they didn't have the luxury of having a guy move to their school this year that had already run in the 9:30s.

Then they run the risk of the same thing happening to them that Rocky had happen, except they'll get the benefit of the doubt because they are racing other schools that will qualify for NXN outside of their home course.

pretty good list the only changes I would make are the following: replace riverton with cda, move jesuit oregon up to 16th spot and add rocky mountain or great oak to 21st spot. I might include boise idaho, mira costa, and dana hills somewhere here as well

OH BOY I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY SAID IT
Look at one of their funny comments last year:
“But can someone please set up a dual meet between Jesuit LA and Jesuit OR?”

If Centennial had their complete team, they would have probably beat this Rocky squad at this race. They were missing two sophomores that ran 9:54 last year and a 4:23 miler. If nothing else, it would have been a tight race. On paper, they should put 5 in front of Rocky's 4 since Sawyer Jensen in 12th should be Centennial's 5th.
Also, their top 3 guys next year will all be juniors.
Probably worth noting that if you plug Boise's speed ratings from the Cardinal Classic into the Caldwell Twilight, Rocky Mountain girls win the meet 49 to 61.
The Boise boys team would win it 54 to 65 over Rocky. Putting Landon in as second (Stadtlander is the real deal, he would have done the same thing to Landon that he did to Cody Lucas) would have shifted the score to 51 to 59 in favor of Rocky.
