What is the reasoning behind not allowing a runner to run under protest? I don't see the drawback, especially with a DQ like Allen's - very reasonable that the sensor was within margin of error.

In the hurdles especially, they could interfere with the other runners. Not fair to the guys who didn't false start.
Agreed. The Allen blovers should quit crying. Everyone has the same rule.
If it was as simple as that, I wouldn’t disagree, but I’m not sure he actually false started; and now, if it’s discovered later there was actually a sensor issue, Allen has no remedy. He should have been permitted to race and then DQed after a full review if appropriate.

What a f**king joke. Almost ruins the entire championships. Track and field, at a time when it was looking really promising for the sport in the US, is just embarrassing itself with this DQ
the .100 rule is obviously a totally arbitrary number
why isn't it .109 or .093 or some actual number based on science
possible to have a class-action lawsuit? no, i'm not joking.
When they did the gun reaction tests many years ago, the actual fastest reaction time recorded was something like .115 . But they rounded it down to .10 just in case there was an outlier somewhere who had a reaction time that was legitimately faster than .115 .
The reality is that many runners whose reaction time is between .10 to .109 are actually anticipating the gun, not reacting to it.
This is absolute garbage. Y'all really think people are anticipating the gun in a world championships and jumping a thousandth of a second too early? BS!
Did they do the fastest reaction time testing on the absolute best athletes in the world WHILE in their biggest competitions?
Too many people believe whatever tf science says, as if a study or two can understand the capacity of every human alive. The arrogance...
one of the things that makes it even more ridiculous is that he was only a few hundreths quicker out of the blocks than he was in the semis. Seems clear from those two starts he has a faster reaction time than the others. Can't it just be a gift?
