Nice and cloudy today; much cooler than it had been the last week or so.
Started easy for about two miles, in a new neighborhood (moved across town a week ago and have been exploring) and as I passed a house I saw a dog run out into the street, and a woman holding the leash of another dog that looked just like the first was yelling at "Piper" to come back...so I followed the dog at only a slightly faster pace than before, and a minute later a high-school-age kid ran towards the dog too, and I kept the dog in sight and pointed the direction the dog had gone. The kid was only really capable of about 7min/mile pace, so I decided to pick it up and try to catch Piper myself. She kept running into people's yards and then taking off when I got near, so I tried swinging around to the other side of the road and cutting her off before she could bolt again, but I only got around her once, and she juked me and ran past again (maybe if I were a basketball or football player that was good at defense I'd have gotten her then). Finally she decided at one yard to shit in the azaleas, so I got her by the collar and waited for the kid to catch up.
So I got a little sprint work in for about .5-.75mi there.
A little later in the run found a little park with a long flat grassy stretch, so I took off my shoes and did a few barefoot strides. Headed back home on a slightly different route (Piper had taken a lot of turns and I couldn't have gone back the same way if I'd tried), found an elementary school with a 200m track and did a lap for funsies, and made it home at a bit quicker pace (maybe 6:30 for the last couple miles).
About 50 minutes, so 6.5-7 miles...everything but the stomach felt good. This seems to be the situation almost every day now--I haven't been missing days, and my legs, lungs, and heart all feel great, but the stomach continues to give me problems.
