Who else remember, the silver medalist from the Tokyo Olympics. An unknown athlete that just showed up to the Olympics, and she grabbed the silver medal and disappeared again.
Def mistimed her late advance. Ran into some (Ethiopian) traffic, but still could have done better, Squaring with Chebet at the bell would have been ideal.
She certainly is the best of the Europeans and Americans. Valby did ok (beating semi-injured Brits) and broke 31 in an international race with a rather conservative race plan. Schweizer is nowhere near the runner she was before she was injured. Kelati at least took a shot at winning glory.
Man pretty solid run from all the Americans tbh. I would have thought Kelati could have hopes of a top 5 finish if all went right because she seems more on Monson's level IMO, but 9th for Karissa and 11th for Valby is really fantastic.
Americans 8, 9, 11. Sigh. Pretty typical performance by USA.
I think Valby had a very respectable race. She ran about as well as anyone could expect off of the insane last year she had in the NCAA. Some rest and then some time training as a pro and she will be up there next time. She got her feet wet and that is good enough this year.
Oh I totally agree. Following a college season, this is like a dream!
I just wish the US athletes could hang a little better when the kicking begins.
If, IF, that was Battocletti's only race and she had run that 10K and at the end of it collapsed and needed CPR then maybe, MAYBE, I'd allow 1% of my being to entertain she was clean, BUT, she has two 5k's in her and that 10k and she out kicks some of the best distance runners in the world twice AND she crosses the line and saunters around the track waving to the crowd. It's OFFENSIVE how blatant and egregious what I'm seeing is.
She gets tested no matter what color her medal is, so why didn't she just win it if it was so easy for her?
I'm not saying she's clean, just saying that this is a pretty questionable point.
WHY ARE THE ANNOUNCERS SAYING BAKKOLETTI, ITS BATOCLETTI AS IN BAT-OH-CLET-TEA
Really. I do not know why they are so bad at just sounding it out. Ideally they would have actually done their research, but even doing it on the fly should be easy. You can do better by just sounding it out even if you have never heard an Italian name before!

Hoping to see a PB but the amount of racing she has put on her legs compared to the field since January 1 only worked against her. Most of these women barely turned wheels this year building up to the Olympics, Parker has been racing non stop

I was expecting more aggression from Kelati in the last k. Maybe that was all she had today.
