I'm embarrassed to be from the Chicago area. Those commentators sounded like a woman's talk show they run on WGN here, just blabbering anything that comes into their heads without any critical thinking. I wonder if they've ever even seen a race.
I absolutely never want to hear the word "wow" again.
Chepngetich can get the WR in Berlin next year if she wants it. Or Chicago again. She went out hard enough to burn her pacer 30 mins in. Silly, but she held strong. She has 2:13 in her for sure, maybe 2:12 high.
But will it be a world record after Gidey goes for it in Valencia?

Yeah, I thought 2:12 was crazy talk but it's looking realistic now. I'm at the point now where I'm thinking anything less than 2:15 for Gidey in Valencia will be a disappointment.
Full of respect for Chepngetich. She tested her limits and only came up a little short.
Also respect for Sisson. She ran an amazing race and it's great to see NB in the game.
Okay, amazing run by Chepngetich, but surely she would have broken the WR if she had paced it better? Is it bad that that's my first thought after the race?
Splits of 65:44-68:34.
How much money do you think is coming to the great Emily Sisson? Should get great sponsorship bonus money and perhaps some brand new sponsors.

Could you imagine running the AR with no clock at the finish?? I’ve never seen a marathon finish without a clock overhead.
There was a clock, at least behind the arch, we saw it when the clueless commentator was telling us that Kipruto was being congratulated by "Rupp" (a chunky guys with a beard and a cap)
There is a clock on the other side as you finish too but where they have the camera the finish is being blocked by those stupid flags on the side lol. Total incompetence all around. Who sets up a camera to focus on the finish only to not see the finish?? 🤡
The old Record was 3 American Men under 2:10 at the Boston Marathon in the early 1980's won by Greg Meyer, with I think Ron Tabb and Benji Durden the other 2
A copy of this broadcast needs to be made immediately and sent to the broadcast hall of shame.
They barely showed any of the WR and AR attempts int he women's races as they were so fucsed on world records. THen they haev no clock and had no idea if either record was going down.
I was barely watching the race as my 4 -year old and i were throwing the footblal in the room. I need a) the WR wasn't happening and b) the AR was happening. I calculated the 40k WR split and realize she was just 3 seconds ahead and woudln't get it. I then saw her at 400m to go a 2:13:04 and knew she wasn't running a 60.
Sisson was way way ahead. The announcers weren't sure. How about looking at your damn watch?
Jonathan gault says the broadcast has never been this bad. I think it's often this bad but he doens't realize it was he's in Chicago covering it live.

If she's not the female Tadese, I would expect her to have a lifetime PR of 2:10-11. Yuki Kawauchi ran 2:08 off 29-low 10k & 62 mins half, which are basically Gidey's PR.
