Seven of eight indexes on our world watch list posted losses through June 6, 2022. The top performer is London's FTSE 100 with a YTD gain of 3.03%. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 is in second with a loss of 3.04% and India's BSE SENSEX is in third with a loss of 4.43%. Coming in last is our own S&P 500 with a loss of 13.53% YTD.
Do you think that was the bottom 19 days ago? Just wondering why you are keeping track.
I try very hard not to make stock market predictions. I have no idea if we hit lows. The most I'll say is that there is a strong chance that the market will be higher on 5/20/23 than it was at the lows on 5/20/22.
I'm tracking days gone by as a morale booster for myself and as a demonstration of something I see a lot: people saying 'I'll buy back in when things are clearer and less crazy.' many do that....but then never buy in, or at least not at low prices. They buy back in at high prices. So this is a meter showing the passage of time and reminding people that there is rarely a 'clear' time to invest.
Put another way....May 20, 2022 might not have been the low...but returns are likely to be pretty good for a year or five after May 20, 2022. If I'm right, what day the low happens doesn't really matter.
