Dutch TV is saying that Kipyegon succesfully appealed and the results are reversed again so she got reinstated to silver Can't see that result anywhere though
Hassan doesn't care either way since she has a medal regardless, but she personally does think Faith shouldn't have been DQ'd
Congratulations to Faith Kipyegon, her silver medal has been reinstated. Kenya’s team officials led by Milka Chemos, Bernard Ouma and Team Manager Peter Angwenyi successfully appealed and won her case
Championship racing is about winning and that's it. Keely has proven her level, running 1:54 last month, and staying unbeaten all year. She didn't fluke this, she's simply the best at the time when it matters most and she did what she had to to win.

Just ruling. The 2nd best 5000 runner in the race today earns the silver. That’s the way it should be. Sadly, the whole controversy is robbing Chebet of the spotlight.
Since when did middle distance titles become about running blistering times? It never was, it was always about getting to and winning the final on the day. Plenty of world record holders have been well beaten in tactical races. I bet Seb Coe wishes the 800m in 1980 had been so dull, the best in the world by two seconds and he duffed it up in a 1:45 race. Records are for sponsors, gold medals are for champions.

Agree. It was a very professional 'get the job done' race. She controlled throughout the had the rail splitting something like :14.0, 14.5 for the last 200m. Hard for other women to run round someone closing in 1:54.0 pace.

To those who thought she would go home devastated - O ye of little Faith.

I think having the semi and final on consecutive days also played into her strength.
This Italian woman is going to have a stressful couple hours. Leigh Diffey naming her a bronze medalist but also recognizing that an appeal could undo that.
So, the appeal did overturn the initial decision. Granted, just because Diffey suggested she could wind up with bronze, she and her team probably kept that idea out of there heads until the appeal was completed.
Corrigan pissed his pants at the start line & He looked like he wanted no part of that. Mental check out.
Checked in at the back of the pack and pretty much stayed there. 8:36.67. Gotta wonder what his strategy was (stay out of trouble and hope that 5 of the athletes would do mass suicide into the water jump?).
Or maybe guy that had run an absurd number of PRs just to get to the games was fried after extending his season 2 months past its expected finish.

I thought she split faster. 58.3 at 800 and 1:28.88 (IIRC) at 600. So that’s 27 and change - insurmountable in a non tactical race

This is obviously the answer. Corrigan ran his heart out to finish top 3 and then to hit the standard. He was cooked after that. Pretty amazing accomplishment for a 9:13 high school guy to line up at the Olympics as an 8:13 steeple guy.
