Karissa looked great but I would not say she is a lock by any means. I thought Valby looked great too, sweating and grimacing a bit but played pacemaker the whole race until last lap and clearly coasted it in with a lot more in tank. 3rd spot will be battled for. Also - Roe could tap into running on PURE HATE in the final (after losing so many races to Valby) and pull off something incredible.
I don’t think it’s completely “nuts” to think Valby can finish 3rd because she’ll make the final look quite different than the first round, and I’m guessing she’ll finish 4th. Roe though? Sorry, as much as I’d like to see it, zero chance whatsoever.
Cranny led every step of that heat. Very rare for any distance runner to lead a non-time-trial race wire-to-wire.
Still excited to see PV race the final. With temps roughly 5 deg cooler, likely will see PV take it out in 72-73s (15:00-15:12) then ratchet it down from there. Expect ESP, Elise, Karissa, maybe Ella to outkick her at the end. And, that final lap between ESP & Elise will be memorable.
ESP gave Valby the buisness that last lap. Valby really cannot kick
Valby let her go. Valby didn’t try to kick because she knew she didn’t have to. The only objective was to reach the final. Objective met.
It was obvious she could not have kept up if she wanted to and don’t pretend otherwise. You’ll be proven wrong soon enough. Also I called this weeks ago. She doesn’t know how to race! This is a whole ‘nother level, she just learned.
You think a 62 at the end of a 16 min 5k takes anything out of her?? Clearly it feels good to turn the wheels. God practice for the final. Good for confidence. Only upside.
Why exactly did Klecker pull out? He only took a week off of running, was biking throughout, and did a workout today. Surely he'd have a shot if he gave it a go.
