Dividend reinvestment, give me a break. Conveniently used to make stocks look less expensive. Should we throw in inflation? How about a comparison to reinvested bond proceeds?
Give you a break on what? The way the world works? lmao
Don't hurt your back moving those goalposts
OK. Other than mutual funds, what percentage of your investments are set up on dividend reinvestment?
My experience is that very few individual stock and ETF investors are set-up on dividend reinvest.
They own some of everything. I know 2 who are actually brk-heavy...but they told ME to buy brk, not that they necessarily hold it.
They are the world of private equity and hedges, I absolutely do not have access to the same things they do. For me and what I was looking for in terms of US exposure, brk was recommended, in no small measure because they know and trust them, and they are the same generation.
Notice I didn’t buy. Yet.
Idiot—rather than the tsx index, I bought canadian oil, banks, and other commodity producers like rsi. Will be looking into also maybe a healthcare REIT and some others.

Rob Carrick at the G&M has been tracking a "2-minute portfolio" which is a combination of equal amounts the top 2 (by weight) dividend-paying stocks from each of the TSX's sub-indices, rebalancing annually, for a couple of decades or more. It oftens outperforms the index, and on average over that time has outperformed. It's a Canuck version of the Dogs of the DOW. A key advantage is simplicity. That said, it may not offer much more than a simple index ETF, which is even simpler.
Yeah I know about that2-minute portfolio, but had forgotten. Thanks for the reminder, I will have to get updated.
I want Canadian uranium to really fire back up. I have been mentioning uranium on here for a while, as well as my desire to get into coal some way. RIO is one of the uranium-related companies I was looking at, but it is spread widely and not focused on uranium. Might still be good, though.
I feel like going up to Elliot Lake and taking some readings😂, surely that ore body is not exhausted

I may or may not reluctantly work some of the time for some of the players in that industry. Not that I have any inside information one way or another. But I do think that global supply and demand will favour a lot of Canadian companies in the coming months / few years.
Instead of sectors, I have been looking for things that people really cannot do without, to a great extent: gas, oil, drugs, basic crap food, tobacco, health services, etc and trying to find good access points. I should also look at auto parts suppliers, things like MGA coming into range.

Add to that list banks, and telcos. Too bad you can’t buy shares in government, but the balance sheet would look terrible anyway.
Very quiet here today. I will be buying tonight, by merely staying afloat I have bested all my comrades this week. I have a feeling that this time they will drink a lot 😡
My best fund in 2022 is a value fund - it owns a lot of energy, financials and consumer staples. Up 5% in 2022 and 25% over the last 12 months. 30% in 2021.
it was a dog for years because it doesn't buy tech, but it's sure helping me out lately. Portfolio theory in action.
At some point SQQQ will outperform SARK; largely on ARKK has taken a big hit, with QQQ to follow similarly. Although I do believe ARKK holds a number of firms that will go bankrupt or absorbed by other companies at a discount.
I just checked and I've fallen back to where I was in July of last year. That's after continuously adding (from biweekly paycheck, 401k employer match, etc.). So I'll be quite depressed if we reach July and I have less than I did a year before.
However, I realize it will take a while before my investments in hotels in outer space pay dividends 😂

No knowledgeable financial advisor would ever discredit the effect of dividend reinvestment. It is an amazingly valuable tool for wealth growth.

The truth is Mas, I already know what to buy - and coincidentally it's an area HEAVILY controlled by the Illuminati.
I speak of course of defense contractors. Germany and France have already announced heavier defense spending with more NATO countries likely to follow. And like a hardcore cocaine addiction, once you start spending on defense you don't stop. Ask the US about trying to cut the defense budget! I mean just think of the jobs that will be lost!! >:(
Ultimate Illuminati play - if you can't beat 'em, join em. Mas, save a velveteen and gold embroidered seat for me. I'm already shopping for my masquerade ball costume for those famous parties they throw like in that Stanley Kubrick documentary.
