Solid run by NYU at Mets. A 26 flat average is no joke at VCP. Plus the 26 second spread from 2 to 7 is nice...just need to move the pack a bit closer to Philips. I expected Hany to be up higher, but isn't this around the time he was fasting last year? Sounds like he has some solid training under his belt, so he'll be there when it counts.

The Metropolitan Conf is a collection of NYC schools. Used to be a mix of DI, DII, and DIII--now NYU is the only DIII school attending (and the NYU women typically don't run Mets during cross). Yesterday's men's results:
http://www.eliteracingsystems.com/ncaa_xc/2006_mets_xc_championships_men.html
Columbia, running (I think?) a B squad, was an impressive team winner. Marist, whom I haven't followed for years, also seemed to have a good race. (Are they DII?) Stony Brook seemed to be running its second or third team.
NYU had only one man under 26 (on a day when the FDU kid didn't break 25), but its next six came in under 26:30. Abdallah (second on team) and Popeson (seventh) were making their seasonal debuts, I believe.
Phillips was 'way ahead of his teammates, but the 1-7 split was still just over a minute (1-5 was just under). A very solid, yet "quiet," performance by the Violets; one that probably won't help them at all in the polls.
Question--and you guys follow this a lot more than I do: are any other Atlantic teams getting seven men under 26:30 on full-length, moderately-difficult courses? I presume Cortland and/or Geneseo have done...
phillips is a beast. he tosses a mean salad too.
"Question--and you guys follow this a lot more than I do: are any other Atlantic teams getting seven men under 26:30 on full-length, moderately-difficult courses? I presume Cortland and/or Geneseo have done..."
At prenationals Geneseo had their top 6 under 26:30, I know the course is not that difficult but the course was about 60 meters long. Jesse Berube had problems that day (up until this point he was Geneseo's number 1 runner) so with him back in the mix the definately have 7 under 26:30. Cortland has only run one meet at Paul Short and everyone knows that course is short, but they will have their top seven under 26:30 as well. RIT will be able to put their top 5 under 26:30 come time at regionals. They already ran their top 5 under 26:20 at the regional course so watch out for them (they were second at that meet to Geneseo). Atlantic region is good, expect good things to happen this next month.
Thanks, ltr. Looks like a very, very solid region this year--somewhat reminds me of the NY Region (some years!) back in the 1980's.
Cortland just had 4 under or right at 26:30... on a 5.2 mile course
NYU didn't seem impressive at all, Hany finally raced, ran as their 2nd man in 26:01...
interesting weekend...
below is the result from the last time regionals were held at VCP.
Say what you want about the region being alot better now, but those top guys were good, and ran well at ncaa's a few times.
As for the The Met's meet, a few thoughts. Columbia ran a mix of A/B team, but the reality is they have about 20 guys who are all solid and close. Columbia and Marist both ran way better than they did at PS, and Marist had held out 2 of their top 5 at PS.
As for NYU, they ran pretty well. Only guy to really be off was williams, who just had an off day. Every other one of their returning guys ran a significant PR.
Phillips ran well, williams should have been right with him. Abdallah in his first race since 3/30/06 ran pretty well, he has only been running mileage and long tempos, and went out very far back to be careful and stay injury free. And Yes, it is Ramadan, which means he will be fasting till 10/22. no food or WATER from sun-up till sunset. trying have the will power to run 90 a week and not take a drink all day.
Popeson also is only just starting to round into shape, both he and hany can only get better in 5 weeks, barring injury.
their pack looked great with 10 guys at 27;01 or faster.
This region will send 5 teams to ncaa's unless something goes hay wire at regionals.

Plattsburgh takes the Hamilton Invitational and Oswego takes the Nazareth Invite for the 2nd straight year.
Deshane continues to blaze every course he encounters and is looking like a strong top 5-10 at nationals contender.
Oneonta packed up pretty well today but what hurts them is they dont really have any frontrunners which could be difference between a top 10 at regionals this year compared to teams like Ithaca, Plattsburgh, Oswego, and Rowan.
Oswego won the Naz Invite 6K on a muddy very hilly course.
Nazareth swept the top 3 spots but then Oswego's pack was very solid with the top 4 runners all within 40 seconds. Oswego made a bit of a statement striking back on Fredonia who beat them last week at Geneseo.
My new top 10:
1.Geneseo
2.Cortland
3.NYU
4.RIT
5.TCNJ
6.St. Lawrence
7.Brockport
8.UofR
9.Ithaca
10.RPI
Plattsburgh, Oswego, and Rowan all knocking right on the door trying to take out UofR, Ithaca, and RPI.
Man, you were almost close. If it had been between Geneseo and Cortland, I would've prefered to go to Geneseo, but to your dismay, I didn't go to either. Sorry, try again!

you seem to have such a strong connection to geneseo. my guess is you were breastfed by coach woods as a kid. that might explain why every time you post on this message board you sound like a complete moron.
Well, to those who think NYU was unimpressive you need to do some research. They by far the best team in the region. Cortland's 1-5 gap opened up as well as 1-7. Looks like Matt Moran has once again gone all out for his Pennsylvania meets to try and show Penn St that he knows what hes doing. It's a shame, they have some great talent and if they were on NYU or TCNJ they would be darn fast. I hate these fast mid season meets, they take the focus off the big meets in November and waste the season away for some. Hamilton Invite was very low quality with the exception of Ithaca & Plattsburgh women. DeShane and Asher showed some signs of life.
I wonder if Fredonia and SLU ran all out, SLU seems to be getting worse week by week, unless they aren't racing hard for fear of repeating last years regionals. But now they have to watch out for 05-06 Indianapolis Colts-idis.
Rank Order of Finish at Regionals (NOT RANKING TO DATE)
1) NYU- Best team outright
2) TCNJ- Best peakers outright
3) Geneseo- Best pack
4) Cortland- Most talent
5) Brockport- Most Improved
6) Plattsburgh- Peak well
7) RIT- Bonk
8) SLU- Bonk 2
9) RPI- Bonk 3
10) Women's All-Star Team (Wiszowaty, Montgomery, O'Sullivan, Griggs, Nadolski)- Most of these girls can run 27:30
11) Fredonia- ?
Wow.. that was so bitter I could almost taste it. No way is NYU the hands down best team in this region. They're very good, yes. They're top 3 for sure, but I'll take Cortland over them when all is said and done. In a bigger race(like districts should be), Geneseo could give them a run for their money, and so could TCNJ (assuming they're as good as they should be). They're going to have a lot of power up front, but I think their pack (just like everyone elses) is going to really rack up points come regionals. I can't see the winning team at regionals scoring less than 70 points, unless one team really steps up big time.
Hey Nate. Guess what? It's REGIONALS, not districts. No such thing in any way, shape or form.

What is the meet called that you may qualify for Nationals? Yup, Regionals.
are f-king retarded
Nope, but thanks for your opinion. Next.
You'll notice I used both the term "Districts" and "Regionals". And who cares what its called?
If I rememeber correctly, it was unusually warm and humid at the 01 regional meet.

it was warm for november, mid to high 50's, but the ground was also very hard as it hadnt rained in a few weeks, and a bit dusty.
Looking to go to a Atlantic Region School...
Please give me a fair ranking of top 10 coaches in the region. In all honesty. I want to go somewhere where I can maximize my potential and help build a team to the top or sustain a team at the top. I run 4:28 and 9:37 and am a senior in HS. I am looking at Plattsburgh, Oswego and Albany right now.
Thanks for your help.
