Ha. Nice post. I admit I love Goose but was worried he didn't have that fire. Not so.
He's only 25. Hocker is 23. Hobbs is 21. Between those guys, along with the young guys still coming up like Green and Sahlman, we have a really nice future in the 1500, and a great chance to show up in a BIG way on home turf in 2028. If I could buy tickets to LA 2028 1500 right now, I would.
Repeat after me, uplifting minorities and pointing out to people that they are no different because of their skin color is the definition of not racist
People tend to presume certain things, whether consciously or unconsciously. Pointing out that Gabby is intelligent and does all the right things helps to push back against that. She’s a great ambassador for the sport.
I think the Obama thing is different because all politicians are presumed to be some level of articulate, so in that instance it’s almost like saying it’s a surprise that a black professional is articulate
Yeah. I don't really judge Centro for the winning time, you still have to beat all the guys. But I do think it is clear that this field is much much better than 2016 when the main dudes were Kiprop/Mahkoulfi/Willis
Well done to Hocker - that was a perfectly executed race.
Jakob fan boys - like I’ve said time and time again - he only does well in DL races with pacers and lights. He actually can’t pace himself. He said in his post race interview that he had no idea how fast he was going - he just felt good. To be fair he was as quite humble in the interview.
Kerr - probably ran as well as he could. He beat Jakob and I just think Hocker had the better kick (and found space).
What a race!
This could be the end of fast 1500 finals. Jakob has to know he can't win this way now.
It's cyclical. Nuguse also knows that he needs a fast race to win, and there are others who probably prefer speed - or just have already come up under the Cheruiyot/Ingebrigtsen regime.
It's always gonna be in someone's best interest to run a fast race; although races that go out fast from the opening lap may eventually become less frequent.
I mean I was surprised when I saw him go to the front so quickly, I was even more surprised when I saw the rough 300m split because I then knew it was going to be sub 55. I just don't get that. In his 3.26, with pacers, with lights, in a one-off race, he was over a second slower through 400 - that is considerable, especially for a strength based guy and not a speed based guy.
I think either Jakob massively overestimated his ability, or let the occasion get to him. I never expected to ever write those words about him.
Also, this is the greatest 1500m of all time. Easily. Funnily enough it matches the exact time from Hicham in Seville 1999 - down to the hundreth, but this was infinitely better with any one of 4 guys with a legit chance to win in the final 120 vs a glorified TT that was won easily.
Hocker will never execute a race as good as that no matter how long he runs. That is the mark of a champion - to do that when it counts the most.
It makes no sense to me…it was pretty much agreed that his best bet was a drive from 1000m out, not lead the entire thing.
But if we want to do conversions, that front run pretty much puts him in 3:26 territory when paced, but it’s obvious he is now a dud in championship races.
No, his best bet is what he did tonight as no one was going to pace this for him anyway. Any slower and he would get smoked in the finish too. What's happened in the 1500 is that several runners have stepped up their game to next level. I am starting to believe that guys like Kerr, Nuguse and now Hocker could get on a time trialing program like Jakob and produce fast times also, but you see how he's the only one focused on that type of performing. These guys just went through rounds. They have 3:27 low if not sub 3:27s in them. Jakob is not alone folks - stop carrying him on a throne.

Sounds like Hocker has it all covered.. and he said it's his strength from improving in longer distances that has made the difference. I think it's his natural speed..
The commentator calling Thomas "articulate" is slightly racist. Remember Biden in 2007 said the same thing about Obama.

Would the assumption be that a Harvard graduate is articulate, as well? They’ve mentioned she’s a Harvard grad many times and we’ve heard her speak in post race interviews. It’s not overly racist, but some may consider it a micro aggression. I didn’t hear anyone comment, for example, the American men who won gold in the 4 man rowing event articulate or well spoken.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen (24) mistet både OL-gullet og medaljen på oppløpssiden. Etter fjerdeplassen innrømmet han at han tabbet seg ut halvveis i OL-finalen.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen expressed disappointment and self-reflection following his race. He admitted to starting too intensely due to feeling overly energetic and confident, which ultimately backfired. Mid-race, he noticed a gap and tried to take advantage by increasing his pace, but this approach proved to be too much. He acknowledged the downfall was his own doing and felt frustrated that his initial strategy of leveraging his strength and confidence did not pay off, leading to a fourth-place finish. Ingebrigtsen summed up his experience by stating he was overtaken by his own pace, emphasizing a lesson in managing his energy and tactics better in future races.

Yeah, the Biden quote was different. Here’s the full quote:
“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”
Nothing wrong with calling someone articulate, but Biden’s use of the words “first”, “bright and clean”, and “nice-looking” definitely gave the quote a weird vibe.
