Coburn needs to get out of Colorado for a little while and train in Florida. Humidity is the poor women's altitude. She just can't take the heat.
💯 You'd think Team Boss would have learned from Tokyo that you have to train for the conditions in which you'll be racing. I'm so disappointed for Emma Coburn.
Could someone provide a backstory as to why she is running for Kazakhstan? Did she keep missing out on Kenyan teams? It was strange she had no Kazakhstan flag or anyone to celebrate. Kind of sad actually.
Many of the Kenyan athletes that have repped Bahrain and Qatar over the years are actually quite good, not the scrubs. Shaheen comes to mind.
I think those countries just offer a ton of money (from the athletes’ perspective) to have someone that will represent them and win a medal.
aside from a few BTC athletes (Jager, Fisher) most US distance athletes in this tourny just look soft, slow and out of it. How is 2022 Coburn going to compete with these girls 20kg lighter than her.
Have to agree. These top steeplechase are African waifs that jump over the barriers. American girls are just too beefy and heavy.
More than a bit of truth to this. The East Africans have much lighter bone structures *on average* and *on average* are far more slender than Americans..for that reason they seem to have a particular advantage in jumping over the steeple in distance events. Common sense.

I suppose that makes sense. But you'd think they would at least have a coach or someone there from the country. It's a really bad look that she didn't have a country flag.
Bryce Hoppel is thru to the semis according to his Insta story!
I don't understand this. I know he got pushed, and quite heavily and he almost fell. But he didn't and it was early in the race (around 250?), so doesn't it get "forgotten" at some point. How long do you get to complain it mattered? I don't think he would have placed any higher if it had not happened.
What is the standard? Someone shoves you hard enough and you're on to the next round?
Take for example someone like Frank Lara or Fauble or Colin Bennie. Some country, perhaps a Gulf country or maybe a small island nation or some ‘stan’ and they are offered $5 million annually for a 5 year contract to change allegiances. Would they do it?
Think about what $60,000 - $75,000 annually plus bonuses means to a Kenyan, who likely supports upwards of 20 relatives, in a country where the annual per capita income in a mere $1,078.
Before throwing stones, thinking about the old adage of walking a mile in their shoes…
We can have this conversation without being unbelievably disrespectful. Anonymity though, am I right?
Anonymity is actually not too relevant when hiding behind a computer screen. All weak people are apt to become cruel when hiding behind a computer screen, even if they do reveal their identify. But if confronted in person, they'd cower and be too afraid to repeat what they said or carry out any actions they described in writing. Not me. If I say it in my tweets or posts, I'd say it in the streets too. Too many fakes in this world and I'm not going to be another one of them.
