Info from Ukrainian sources today tells a Russian military headquarter at Cherson was destroyed by Himars . 12 high Russian officers told to be eliminated.
Ukraine claims and Russian claims are sometimes baseless and wildly exaggerated.
But it is clear significant HIMARS launches taking place. About 10,000 rockets are being supplied.
These are already causing appreciable devastation and loss of life well behind front lines.
But not just military personnel and equipment - also civilians and homes.
Last night, for the fourth night in a row, HIMARS rockets rained down on Kherson.
A warehouse was struck and obliterated. According to the Ukraine, it was an Ammo Dump. According to Russia, it stored SaltPeter, used for fertilizer.
Either way, massive explosions levelled homes for some distance in every direction. So far, 7 civilians have been dug from rubble, with 70 injured, and many missing or buried.
7 civilians that would still be alive if Russia hadn't invaded Ukraine.
reports coming out from Eastern UKR that suggest RU artillery fire has dramatically reduced the last couple of days. Blowing up ammo dumps might be working already. And I have a near-zero percent confidence that the RU military can make solve this problem.
Why is Russia, an alleged military superpower, acquiring drones from Iran? Doesn't Russian have the means and capacity to produce all of its own military equipment, especially drones?

Good news!
I, like you, am optimistic that Russian artillery fire has slowed because of Ukrainian success in blowing up ammunition depots. However, I’m concerned that it may be due to a strategic “pause” for Russia to regroup and replenish their forces, as some sources are reporting.
That's sad. Almost as sad as 200.00 civilians in Iraq and Aghanistan. Comments?
Yup, that's also sad. Doesn't make the death of these seven Ukrainians any less sad though.
Yes, also puts things in perspective. I wonder if you were 28.571 times sadder for those civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Discussion in this thread reminds me that one time when a junkie hobo in L.A pointed out to me that I had a spaghetti stain on my shirt. Meanwhile he reeked of all kind of unimaginable things.
Putin this, Putin that. 7 dead in Ukraine. Maybe it's time to own your own war crimes of a different scale first and admit that the only reason you're involved in this military conflict is so you can blame somebody else for your self-made recession.

Regardless of past US actions (what was Switzerland’s response to the US’s actions? We’re neutral, so we don’t care as long as we get paid.), Russia is still culpable for the deaths of more than 5000 Ukrainian civilians (including these 7). You know, the ones they’re saving from Nazis (note, you’re the only person on planet Earth that still believes Ukraine had a Nazi problem). And, if Putin is *so* concerned about Russian speakers, then why did he blow up 4 Russian apartment buildings back in the day killing hundreds of Russians? Why isn’t he championing the rights of the Russian-speaking LGBQT+ community? Every dead Russian soldier is a step closer to Ukrainian freedom.

You can guess whether the chicken or the egg came first, but it does not excuse or make palatable civilian casualties.
It's deplorable when Russians inflict that loss, and just as deplorable when Ukraine does.
One of those just killed was a young child. No amount of moralistic sophistry makes that right.

You don't seem to have understood my post. Own your own war crimes first, then judge others.
Also, the only reason why the US is involved in this is to mask the recession and blame it on Russia. This is already happening in Europe.
"Because of Russian invasion in Ukraine, please consume less electricity and gas and kindly pay double for everything".
Oh no, not because of invasion. Because European politicians decided to play a dangerous game and not pay Russia for its energy. Like they also blamed Covid for the recession. Recession began first and now everything else needs to be escalated to be blamed for the upcoming crash.

Apparently Americans are smarter than Europeans then. I’ve not heard any rumblings of “blame the economy on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine”. Of course, that’s the benefit of not dependent on Russian energy. Maybe if Europe took a stronger stance and pummeled Russia, they could get very cheap energy in exchange for peace. There is the risk of that people nuclear power though. Quite the pickle you’ve all gotten yourselves into.

I agree. I just think it’s important to remember that NONE of them would be dead if Russia hadn’t decide to invade in a blatantly imperialistic land grab.

Every event is the result of countless antecedent events.
One can point to any number of prior actions as the snowball starting this avalanche.
Russia did not suddenly decide to invade Ukraine. The decision to launch their "limited engagement" no doubt has imperialistic objectives, but was not without context and precipitating provocation.
The "Voice of God" for 1.4 billion people states as much:
"Pope Francis has told a group of European Jesuit news editors that the war in Ukraine was "perhaps somehow either provoked or not prevented," and he cautioned against oversimplifying the conflict.
In an interview published Tuesday in the Jesuit publication "La Civilta' Cattolica," the pope said that in Russia's war on Ukraine, "there are no metaphysical good guys and bad guys, in an abstract sense."
He said that months before the war, a head of state warned him that NATO was "barking at the gates of Russia," and that Russia would not tolerate it, which could lead to war.
Pope Francis implicitly accused Russia on Thursday of "armed conquest, expansionism and imperialism" in Ukraine, calling the conflict a "cruel and senseless war of aggression".

Or had the USA not overthrown the Ukrainain govt in 2014
