I’m curious what happened to Sisson, and I don’t want to hear it had to do with the hills. She was back off the pack long before the hills started, and at a very reasonable pace for herself. I wonder if it has anything to do with her side stitches.
Eliud had side stiches as well. Happens too often to the best. Wrong dosages!
I'm upset as an American. O Keeffe put herself over her country. She should have taken a cue from Sisay Lemma and let the alternate run, which obviously worked out well for their country Ethiopia in the men's race. I was a fan but no more.
Having read Des Linden's book, I disagree.
O keeffe earned her place. It is hers to do as she pleases. An athletes career is not long or lucrative, she deserves to have her time in the limelight. If you don't like it you can qualify instead next time.
It wasn't O Keefe's place, it was America's. And what limelight are you talking about? Jogging in last place for a couple of minutes after the start? That's not limelight, that's embarrassing. She'll forever be known as the selfish runner that deprived her country of 1/3 of its competitive spots, which is even more inexcusable considering that McClain was in Paris ready to run! Selfish Selfish Selfish
honestly the cheek of it they are the dirtiest athletes out there
source?
I just saw an article by CBC Sports that the Ethiopian team filed a protest to have Hassan disqualified for “trading elbows” with Assefa but the protest was rightfully rejected
Exactly, she had to know she was injured since she was limping from the get-go. I know she wants to be considered an Olympian but when you have another athlete waiting there ready to go the right thing to do is let run. You can still be considered an Olympian.
That isn't true. Making a team dies make you an Olympian, only competing does. She probably wanted to be an official Olympian.
Let me get this straight: you track people find it stupid to want to be labelled as a "finisher", but you see no problem in starting something you can't finish just for the sake of a label?
Just for the record i alsi find it stupid to want finisher labels and participation trophies but the "i stepped aside so the team does bettet" is more valable to me than the "olympian*" status.
* sorry but being an olympian when you know you will DNF is worthy of an ✳.
I love that she is always brutally honest about how tough it is. All runners can identify on some level. We can't always smile like Hull through the miles. She tells it like it is.
I’m not generally one to be too critical of Jon and the brojos, but how did they not even write a preview for this race, and only give it a cursory mention on the pod. I think anyone with an interest in distance running could see this had the potential to be a classic given the lineup and Sifan ending her triple.
She literally hip-checked her into the boards (I didn't know she played hockey), and it still wasn't good enough to stop Hassan.
Exactly. They could’ve both fallen, but to me it looked like a dirty move. I wouldn’t have been surprised if the Kenyans lodged a protest out of spite to see if they could snag a medal for Lokedi. (Obviously won’t happen, but it’s not crazy).
Nope. Read Gualt's article and rewrite your post. Thanks.
"Hassan was technically in the wrong. You can’t blast into someone from behind in a race (yes, it looks like Assefa leaned in as well, but she doesn’t have to let someone cut her off)."

Sisson just posted on Instagram that she’s been struggling a bit lately. And now she’s going to give her body what it is asking for - a break.
Very fine line between being in your best shape and overtraining. I think some of these athletes may have pushed it too far. Understandable in an Olympic year.
Rewatch and see what happened. Tigist was in the lead when Sifan sped up and tried to pass on an inside corner where Tigist was running the tangent. There wasnt enough room for both. Sifan the runner behind, was in the wrong and her vicious elbow and glaring backwards was out of line. Still, she probably would have won anyway and her actions, while deplorable, didn't deserve a DQ.
