George Mills ha. But I see your point. Running the 5000 indoors is a bit of a recent phenomenon though. Haile G did 3:31/7:26, and 3:33 (world indoors)/12:50 in ‘98-‘99. Probably still the indoor GOAT considering done without superspikes.
No, Jakob may lose, but scared…not scared. Jakob is possibly the most confident athlete alive today. He clearly has supreme belief in himself. You know, there are other amazing athletes that overcome their self doubt to become champions. Jakob does not have that problem.
Cooper Teare was the fourth American here. He was five seconds behind Kessler. And Cole Hocker (who looked great today by the way) wasn't in the race.
Message to Cooper: Only three Americans get to go to the Olympics in each event. The Olympics Trials 1500 is going to be packed with talent. A slow, tactical 5000 meters (where your kick may be equal to anyone in the field) is your best chance.
Message to Cooper: Or run the steeple it is a great event and you would be good at it, and there is less American depth
4 x 1 mile of Kerr, Wightman, Mills, Gourley would likely be the best national team ever assembled. How far ahead would they finish against Yared, Hocker, Kessler and take your pick….Love to see it.
Nuguse, Hocker and Kessler are at worst even against kerr, wightman and mills. The question is whether we have a guy who can beat Gourley. It would be a 1 or 2 second win with Gourley dusting somebody like Teare. Unless we have a college kid ready to step up to the next level.

Not a bad idea. Krissy Gear (last place in today's 2 mile) made the steeplechase team last year. I don't see any reason why Copper Teare couldn't make this year's steeplechase team.

GBR’s luxury is the depth. Gourleys coming back from injuries but they have Fogg and Stonier to throw in the mix. The US has prospects at #4 alongside Teare in Waskom, Houser, and probably a couple more names. But the Brits have guys in the 3:49/3:31-2 range ready to go.

Too early to say for Cooper. Remember McGorty did the Steeple then came back to represent US in 10k and 5k. I think cooper has another year of training and then see what happens. Timing sucks for him in the Olympic cycle.

Cooper Teare's chances of making the Olympic team this year in the 1500 are extremely low. He really should start looking at a non-1500 event.
Whether that's the 5k or the steeplechase is between him and his coach. But the 1500 isn't the right event for him in this year's Olympic Trials.

Not a chance you would be saying that if it was the US team that had the last two world champions. You'd be saying the US is clearly stronger.

But they don’t….
Ok, LRC please stage a 4 x mile race this summer, Team USA vs Team GB with the 4 top trials qualifiers for each. Maybe $100K for the charity of the team’s choice?
Yared is just the goofiest most likable guy ever. Shows you can be super competitive and not need to do the Jakob/Kerr thing.
He has a lot of pressure on him in Paris though. Could easily not medal
Many don't realize the insane level of talent there is worldwide. Just getting to the final is a challenge, and then everything has to fall in place to medal.
