back still a bit achy, but the Achilles felt better so got after it yesterday....it didn't take long for the Achilles to act up, but I kept on....stopped after 57' to walk the beach...nice day...still a bit sore today, but I'll live....will see what tomorrow brings...
The snow was enough to support a brief X-C foray. Took the shoulder of the road for 3 miles and then did 7 repeats of 170 yds. on the lawn. Ungawa!!
My form was ragged; balance left a lot to be desired. But the 58 minutes spent slip sliding left me a pleasant fatigue that nothing but skiing can induce.
Imagine..... Never was a particular fan of Lennon, but he did the word Imagine justice.
Roy Pirrung thrives on a regimen I can't Imagine.
today
work driven forced rest. rolled with it.
On my way to Rome, looking forward to family and some athletics.
Well, i'll grant you Imagine as a solo effort, but as a combiner-of-things, inspired by experiments like Aerosmith and RunDMC walking this way, how about John and Aretha mixing Imagine and Think:
Freedom is the answer?
What kind of runner was Pirrung as a youth/young adult?
51' today....negative split as the wind was at my back after the turnaround....back and Achilles still less than perfect, but tolerable....I have a theory regarding that which I am testing....so no med ball stuff...scheduled day off tomorrow....
ran on a flat paved trail by the santa ana river because i wanted to avoid uneven surfaces on my usual trail
even though i made it 30min ok yesterday after my first ART session for my ITBS, today i had to stop after 8m30s when the devil's pitchfork struck the outside of my left knee
FML
PM; Balmy 55F coaxed the Bride and I to the roads for a 17 mile ride. Mucho traffic for a Saturday afternoon. High powered rifle shots reverberated from multiple backyards as the local denizens prep for next weeks Whitetail Deer season.
Coupled with a plethora of chainsaws growling in the hands of the firewood cutters, and you do not have the makings of a relaxing outing.
Bummer on the ITBS mr. mayan, many years ago I felt that pain. Hope the ART is your ticket to recovery.
O2; My guess is your intuition is worth following. There's a time to be on the ball, then there's freedom from the ball.
tpcb, Aretha; Think vs. Lennon; Imagine Play them at the same time and find the devil's pitchfork lodged between the ears. Both great songs, just polar opposites.
As far as Roy Pirrung, he started running in his late 20's( I think). He felt his weight was getting out of hand and wanted to quit smoking. Things clicked; he had a supportive spouse and employer, and his running career blossomed.
Back in the day I could beat Roy at a 5K thru 50 mile. After that he came into his own. His travel schedule alone would put me under now. He and the Bride are fB friends so I keep somewhat in touch. The guy is the human equivalent of the Ever Ready Energizer Bunny.
Bushman:
re. The ever ready bunny and the Bride on FB, sgst you kep an eye on things, LOL
re. beating him from 5k to 50Mi, i have always known your posts were laden with talent
re John and Aretha, i'm going to get some musicwise ass to do me a mix.
re. my running today, travel day, with a very early wakeupcall at 04:15am. Cold in Milan, maybe i'll make it to the gym...
Re; Rabbits; Grace Slick and Jefferson Airplane (or was it Star ship by then?) gave the best treatment. White Rabbit.
" white mice talking backwards".
An accusation we've had leveled at us previously, as I recall. LOL
One can never be too watch full.
Re; Mostly my posts are laden with BS, it helps counteract or balance, the serious nature of life in general.
Casey Stengel said a mouthful when he uttered "life is just one damned thing after the next".
Re; This mix I will need to hear as I cannot wrap my head around it as an abstract blend. R-E-S-P-E-C-T,.... sing it Aretha.
AM; The old dog is slowing down. 3.4 miles in 34 min. and we had too almost walk the uphills.
PM; 45 Minutes on the spin trainer. Good opportunity to listen to the Packers dismantle the Minnesota Vikings.
Go Pack! 9-0. WOW.
Next race on the horizon. 5 mile Turkey Trot in Green Bay.
Bushman,
again (you have done it before on this thread) i laughed heartily, with a bit of a vertebral column rear motion so as to certify the authenticity of the stimulus, LOL LOL LOL
yesterday
i DID make it to the gym and did all sorts of wild stability, equilibrium and core stuff in the weight room. I eyed a treadmill but just couldnt do it. It was cold and damp outside and i wanted to go running but decided to go swimming instead. But i was getting so bored swimming (even my weird style) that i started running in the water. So the whole pool is 20meters and constant depth to about my chest height. So it was kind of amazing just to work on form and foot strike so as not to slip backwards, and balance out the arms workout with hand and finger positioning. I actually overtook some swimmers in my lane who i had asked if it was ok to run in the water.
today
nothing yet, but that may change befor night fall
yesterday
movies. "Warrior"
today
lunchtime, gloriously sunny, 40 minutes on asphalt, thinking about form...
I just started back running last week.. After one week of jogging, I ran 8 x 400's on the track. All my 400's was about 1:35 easy. What should my 5k be in three weeks?
yesterday
Some strides and drills early afternoon on the track
today
gym
what were your PRs?
Nice. Sounds like you really enjoyed your run that day...
First off, excuse for me budding in or being a 'troll' to some of you but to me when I see a title that sates..."Describe Your Running Today"...well, that could mean anything...
Today for me or for any other day...I feel like describing my run...
This morning, I drove to my place--the trail I feel comfortable or lets say the place I can run without interruptions. In other words, if I ran in my hood--I would be interrupted by a busy traffic/nosy neighbors who think I have nothing better to do and scold me for being selfish...
Therefore, I go to a comfortable route--a place no else knows who I am except for the locals. I run this particular route that is a 2-3 mile loop. Some days, I see familiar faces and other times I do not see a soul but I don't care because I love what I do and that is to run....
The air is cool and crisp, maybe my first mile is slightly slow but I pick it up after a while when my lungs and legs get warmed up. I soak in the atmosphere, the surrounding and the people around me and I am happy...truly happy that I an running today, to be 'alive'. I hear my breathing--slightly labored and yet I focus and try to control it while I go up a slight incline or when picking up the pace and eventually I start to get into a rhythm...a nice one to the point I don't realize I am 'floating', 'gliding' along the pavement--it becomes natural and the miles click by...clicks by....
Wow, I just realize I am done with my running for now. Hmmm...11 miles and I am scheduled to run little more later....
Anyway, sorry to 'bud' in to this thread and being a 'troll' but I feel like once in a while it's good to truly "describe your running" for the day. Thanks for me allowing me to or NOT.
Thursday; 3.5 miles with the dog. Cold and blustery conditions.
Friday; Dropped the pickup at the shop and ran the seven miles home. Calm, sunny day. The right ankle took it's time to loosen up, then things flowed along OK.
Oh boy, here we go again. The Gun Deer Season starts tomorrow. Any runs will need to be conducted in the dark before or after shooting hours.
Bud in any time.
That was the kind of post this thread is all about. Thank you for the insights.
Walked the perimeter fences today in hunting attire and packing 11#'s of rifle. Roughly 3 miles . The pair of clodhoppers I selected came to disagree with my feet. Swapped out for a lighter pair at noon.
PM; 31 minutes on the spin trainer. Working on cadence; 6x1min. repeat with 1 minute rest. Very light load;97-99-100-107-115-117/min.
O2; How's the achilles doing?
tpcb; Not to sound judgemental, but your swimming seems to be on a par with mine. The Bride says I make a lot of moves that don't contribute to forward motion in the water.
4,800 posts...it seems odd in that I really don't know where all that time has gone... or what mundane/intricate quirk keeps the regulars going....2001 a space odyssey...trolls or no trolls... a simple sharing/describing of one's run apparently has an element of durability
Some Random Runner(s),
your writing lesson is well put and to be appreciated.
i will make the effort to be more descriptive but i exclude giving up occasionally shooting for extreme brevity: it feels fast and clean just like a quick zip around the block.
I am not even going to start talking about when back in the day, runners would wave to each other while running on the street
I dont want to be constrained by coercive creativity.
Today
In Rome, too busy to run
Yesterday
In Cortona, too busy picking almonds and olives to run
Saturday
Awesome, awesome Kids Athletics for 2 hours. Threw the javelin in the form of broom handles, by groups of threes, it was like being at a medieval festival as no direction inaccessible...
Sunday; Rest.
Monday; 7 miles on snow covered side roads. Pace was crawling slow, but that's what I could muster.
Today a slow trot down to the golf course an easy lap then back home, an hour and about 11kms.
Yesterday was a slower version of the same although abbreviated slightly to 10+kms in the hour.
These were my first 2 runs since hyperextending my right knee on a 2 hour climb of Mt Hotham 3 weeks ago.
Monday was a testing 2 hour kyak session after work and a weight session.
Sunday, friends and I did a rather ridiculously long (40ish km) hike. Starting at the now very swank and brand new Strathewan Criket Club. Strath was the worst hit area in the fires of a few years ago.
We hked up the crazy steep Pine Ridge "Road" through what was once dense forest of eucalypt and tree ferns. It s barely a skeleton of a forest but the regrowth will pick up soon. The top of this road had a community of some 25 houses. All but one of these was destroyed in the fire.It has seen a good deal of rebuilding despite signifiant loss of life.
We continued through the western end of Kinglake then down the steep Beale "Avenue" and back down to Strath. Then up Bowden Spur, years ago the last part of a notorious 32km race(one of my faves)a 7.5km climb. Then back toward central Kinglake and then turning down Bald Spur Road. A sobering section as all the homes at the top of this spur were destroyed and many killed.
Finished up being about 10 hours of hiking.Strangely the long hike seemed to be therapeutic to my knee issues.
Nice to see TPCB back posting.
Thanks for nudging me back on here Bushman.
