Kipyegon grabbed Tsegay's arm. As much as I like her, it really did go beyond defending her space. The only reason not to DQ her would be some sort of "proportionality" clause, but I don't think there's anything like that in the rulebook.
Tsegay, though, was clearly the aggressor. One of the most blatant violations I've ever seen. How in the world she wasn't disqualified I'll never understand.
people get elbowed and jostled in track pretty often. and they get shoved back. grabbing the arms the way faith did is a less typical response. we'll see what happens. Tsegay gets nothing either way.
Glad Keely got her gold. I mentioned her being a lock after Athing fell and was relentlessly downvoted.
Same - though I feel like Athing Mu is sitting at home kicking herself right now (or maybe not...). That was a very winnable race.
I hate these kinds of posts. No it wasnt. Because she wasn't even able to get to the startline. And if she was it might have been a different race. And even if it had not been, she might have lost.
Hassan is the most obvious doper in the modern era imo
It's funny that I'm getting downvotes on this when it was a pretty popular opinion that someone (Hassan) couldn't possibly pull off that 1500/10000 double without doping. Then NOP gets dismantled and now everyone believes a 5/10/marathon triple is possible. Y'all don't even think some people can get through rounds in one event yet someone is doing the distance triple... ridiculous.
I don't understand LR at all. Y'all are EXTREMELY suspicious of certain athletes and lax on others. Some of it tracks and some of it doesn't whatsoever. An athlete can be a non contender for YEARS and all of a sudden be a world beater and that's fine yet someone making a sudden jump from obscurity is instantly guilty. Then some athletes are destroying barriers that were considered impossible and it's fine. It was a joke when the Chinese women were running those times yet I'm expected to believe in two weeks Hassan will destroy those times in the 5/10 and be capable of running extremely fast in the marathon. It's a complete farce.
agreed. really wish we could have seen Mu in the race. so happy for Keely, so well deserved, and yet the race felt almost anticlimactic.
the athlete who ran 2:00 the other weekend?
Oh come on, that's a silly thing to say. You want to beat the best athletes on their best day, because if your best is better than their best, it shows just how awesome you are. Keely is a deserving winner, but all of us would have been better off if it had been Keely vs. Athing with both of them at the top of their game. That's why everyone is so amped for the men's 1500 - both Kerr and Jakob look incredible, so the race will be an actual measure of two prime athletes at their best. We should all hope that we get to see more Athing vs. Keely in the future - both athletes are special.
A mention for the class from Mary Moraa after the race. She went straight to Keely and hugged her. Then during Keely's interview on Eurosport, Moraa came up and hugged her again. Seems like there's real respect between them.
