By taking up Trump's legally absurd case of absolute Presidential immunity, the Supreme court has actually bestowed on Trump immunity from justice in all his cases.

Unsurprisingly, Trump fans are celebrating their team win. But they would do well to think about how Presidential immunity would affect the country long after Trump is in the grave. The country that their kids will live in.

Russia's lawmakers and Presidents have recently bestowed upon themselves immunity.

We have done fine without no Presidential immunity for 250 years. There is just one President that feels it is necessary to execute his duties.

The only one in the can for Trump is Alito. He's become a true joke - the definition of a political activist judge. He flip flops all over his own rulings and hates the First Amendment. But I have to think the rest of them just want to chime in on this issue and the complicated status of the case. I don't think they are trying to delay Trump's trials. That said, I don't think any of them care when and if Trump's trials happen.

Both Fani Willis and Letitia James should be in prison.

It is difficult to know if the SC is willfully trying to delay or they are so fully absorbed in their own lofty opinion that they are oblivious to the damage they will do to the country with allowing zero trials to proceed before the election. Clarence Thomas wife being a big lie proponent is an X factor too.

But we know a good portion of this court was installed by the Federalist Society and they want their ROI. Which they received with affirmative action and Dobbs.

Oddly, They are still sitting on their decision regarding booting Trump off the ballot in Colorado. But smart money says they will say no court has the right to remove Trump and interfere with the voters right to decide.

It will take some contortion for them to appear so strongly in favor of the will of the electorate on one case at the same time they forbid 200 million voters from knowing if Trump is guilty or innocent.

Some legal experts say that the SC is tipping their hand on which way they are leaning.

The DC circuit ruled on Trumps immunity for his specific crimes he is charged with. Yet the SC wants to determine if the President enjoys immunity on alleged Presidential acts. They want to weigh in on the case in abstract. Not the one in front of them.

Very, very bad for those seeking urgency of resolution.

I agree with the decision, but the SCOTUS never really addressed all the reasons that Colorado argued they could decide who goes on a ballot. The SCOTUS did a poor job, in my opinion, of reconciling the broad SCOTUS holding that states have nothing to do with federal elections with the fact that states have a LOT to do with federal elections.

I also agree with the dissent that SCOTUS didn't need to decide that section 3 of the 14th Amendment has basically been and continues to be superfluous language in our Constitution since it was drafted, because Congress never enacted a statute about how it should work. Seems ridiculous.

Have you noticed that Trump is repeatedly trying to mainstream his absolute Presidential criminal immunity claim? It started as a legal hail Mary mainly to delay his cases and it most certainly has done that. Even though it has been legally and factually obliterated in court twice. Now he seems to be publicly priming his audience to buy into it.

I think this is an area to watch. A couple of things could be happening.
1.. He knows in advance the Supreme Court is in the tank for him and he is prepping America for his immunity win and getting all his cases thrown out.

2. He is just being Trump saying dumb sh!t without any forethought or strategic plan.

I am starting to think this SC is going to give some type of split the baby win for Trump on the absolute immunity claim.

Elections have consequences and Trump put 3 on the Supreme Court. Well earned. you don’t think these liberal judges in Atlanta/DC/NY etc aren’t in the tank against him?

One might hope that criminal actions have consequences as well.

Granted that some of these cases are complicated, but the classified documents case is about as dead simple as can be.

Trump saying "I had every right to keep these documents under the presidential records act. I didn't make a secret of it." False on both. Liar. PRA certainly does NOT say a president can take whatever Top Secret documents he feels like, and he certainly did try to make a secret of it -- in fact lied and conspired to make secret of it -- even going so far to having his lawyer submit a FALSE affidavit saying he had no documents while he was telling some aides to hide Top Secret government documents in his bathroom. Jack Smith obliterated Trumps idiotic motions to dismiss. But True to her form Cannon is giving Trump more delay time to respond.

Be interesting to see how much MAGOs go after this Brian Butler (Trump Employee Number 5). Or kind of interesting. I can't be arsed to read pro-Trump stuff very much, other than Fox and Breitbart. So I'll probably never hear all the stuff they invent on Butler.

Butler was pretty foolish doing this interview and I'm sure the prosecutors advised him not to. Maybe he was pissed at being lied to by Trump and his advisors, so he wanted to take some shots. Still seems like a bad idea.

Some defendants in Georgia, including Trump, got some Counts dismissed. I think they can re-file the Counts if they add more substance and facts, but they probably have to go back to the grand jury to do so. Not sure if it's worth the prosecution's time, given the Counts seem to be relatively minor ones. At least I think they are.

Soliciting elected officials to violate their oaths of office. Phone call to Raffensperger 'just FIND the votes'. I hope that DA Willis can still end up bringing this charge because I think it is important to discourage such crap, but not if it means a significant delay.

Interesting day in Southern District of Florida. Trump and Jack Smith showed up for a hearing on Trump's motion to dismiss.

This Judge Cannon continues with her goofy ways. She denied Trump's motion to dismiss for "unconstitutional vagueness" WITHOUT PREJUDICE and as premature (Trump can refile later) holding that "the overall question presented depends too greatly on contested instructional questions about still-fluctuating definitions of statutory terms/phrases as charged." WTF does that even mean? Refusing to make a legal ruling because the words in the statute are contested?
