I think your reply was to Tinman however if you meant your comment to refer to me then I remind you of one of my earlier posts when I made mention of Cram's base. I do not however think that is the point of the thread. I thought we were here to discuss specificity of particular events and the importance of RPTD (Race Pace Target Distance or goal pace (sessions) for the event ). To quote fron the opening post -
"Obviously a sprinter must sprint, and a Marathoner must do long runs.
Over the last few years, with the success of Phitzies book and some others, I have noticed a greater surge towards "VO2max" workouts and "LT" sessions. I understand how these are physiologically important.
But there seems to be a surge away from something that used to be more valued: Pacework For The Goal Distance."
While it is interesting to discuss Lydiard in the context of this particular issue I, for one have no wish to discuss here the value to 800 runners of doing 22 mile runs. If we can discuss Lydiard in the context of this thread (and I think we can for I believe he did understand and practice RPTD in some measure) then I feel we might also discuss Dr Van Aiken and Lydiard's own influences such as Webster (a coach from England who is mentioned by Murray Halberg in 'A Cleam Pair of Heels' as influencing Lydiard). We might discuss the value of runs at AnT during base and the importance of reducing such runs in favour of RPTD sessions - certainly for distances of less than 5000 - in pre-competition period But PLEASE let us not discuss all Lydiard's phases as there are many other threads devoted to his training methods.
