Newms has given a lot to IL XC. I first became aware of him on the Chicago Tribune HS sports board. He was living in Ohio and came back to IL to try to see if he could turn his love of Track and XC into something more. And he has.

Oh, I think Illinois is so lucky. both of the guys who do the interviews (Mike Newman with Dyestat, and Tony Jones with Milesplit IL) are gifted at what they do - I've watched other states, LOL.
Srsly though, I think they ask good questions, and the interview is very natural, it's just like a normal conversation. compared to when I was in h.s., things have improved!!!
I saw Coach Derks and Coach Crowe hugging one another while both crying.
A great relationship between the teams for sure.

State 3A girls, a race with so many pr’s…. Except those who ran in the Granite City Sectional. State meet week isn’t the time to question performances but now it’s over if you look at the times run that day vs. Peoria where so many athletes dropped 15-20 second pr’s this is what the top 7 at Granite City ran, then at Peoria 7 days later: ( no names, just times)
16:53 / 18:33
16:57 / 17:25
17:18 / 17:25
17:24 / 17:51
17:25 / 19:16
17:27 / 17:40
17:30 / 18:17
around a full minute SLOWER at Peoria on a course and a day where athletes pr’ed throughout the field. Can anyone shed light on Granite City being short, using long stretches of paved paths or the course being adjusted vs. previous versions.
Ran the course on Friday before sectionals, exactly 3 miles. Very flat though with nearly no turns. Weather was perfect at Granite City though
Thanks for posting this!
Illinois boys teams go 1-2-3 just like last year. Indiana who?
Damn, Plainfield rivalry. Do they train together ever? I mean, I'm glad to see this. It was nothing like this when I was in high school, we basically never talked to the rival teams. Edit: I don't think these are official scores yet, but 164 for PN/168 for PSHS. Wow. close.
MP for the win. Top 4 for the ladies.

Maybe some of them went to the same middle school? Or competed for them same youth club?
Looks like Nalley gets a lot of advice from Craig Virgin
There are no youth running clubs in Plainfield. And unless if an athlete moved, they wouldn't have gone to the same middle schools.
Coaches said in an interview that the success of the other helps push them.
Plainfield from 2000 to 2010 went from 13,000 people to 39,500 people...many of them young married couples. This created a mini baby boom in the area where many of those kids are now middle school to high school age. In 1990 there was only one Plainfied High School, now there are four, all over 2,000 students with South and North the most at 2,400 and 2,300. Three of them opened within an 8 year span between 2001 and 2008.
It was only a matter of time before getting good coaching that the increased demographics were translated into distance success. I believe it will stay that way.
DGN boys in 7th at NXN with 215 points - closer to 4th place than 8th. Plainfield North in 15th with 364 points.
Once again Illinois teams underrated by the rest of the country and so called speed ratings, which had DGN well back in the standings around 13th and PN second or third from last.
Downers Grove North boys team took 7th and return 3 scorers
Plainfield North didn’t do as bad as people expected. The fact that they beat at-large team Great Oak makes me wonder if the other Plainfield team should have been selected as an at-large
All the kids from Illinois ran tremendous. Todays conditions were disastrous.
Nice performance wrote:

Also beat 6 auto qualifiers.
It will be fun to watch Plainfield North's performance over the next 2 years - such a young team but already so successful. They will be absolutely dominant when their core are seniors.
